대구시는 지난해 지역 교통사고 사망자 수가 79명으로 집계됐다고 21일 밝혔다.

이는 교통사고 통계 작성을 시작한 이래로 가장 작은 수치로 대구시가 교통사고 30% 줄이기 특별대책을 시행한 2016년 158명 대비 절반 수준으로 줄어들었다.

타 도시와 비교하면 교통사고 사망감소율이 1위에 해당되며, 자동차 1만대당 교통사고 사망자는 전국 16위로 최저수준에 도달하는 가시적인 성과를 거두었다.
