군에 따르면 이번 행사는 최근 물가 인상과 경기 침체로 대중의 소비심리가 위축된 가운데 매출 감소가 우려되는 지역 상권과 전통시장에 활력을 불어넣기 위해 추진됐다.

이에, 군청 공무원과 관계기관 및 단체 등 약 1,000여명의 참여자들은 해당 기간 관내 전통시장과 오일장에서 영덕사랑상품권 또는 온누리상품권을 이용해 전통시장 장보기를 자율적으로 실행하고 있다.

또한, 참여자들은 시장에서 어르신이 장바구니나 무거운 물건을 들고 계실 경우 이를 돕는 장바구니 들어주기 봉사도 함께 펼치게 된다.

이번 행사를 위해 김광열 영덕군수는 18일 강구시장, 19일 임시 영덕시장, 20일 영해만세시장을 방문해 직접 장을 보며 상인들을 격려하고 애로사항을 경청하고 있다.

김 군수는 “전통시장과 지역 상권의 활성화는 재화의 흐름을 결정하는 지역경제의 버팀목이자 군민의 민생과 직결되는 생활경제”라며, “실속 있는 명절 장보기는 물론 지역경제에 활력을 불어넣는 전통시장 이용에 많은 군민께서 함께 해주시고 풍성한 설 명절 보내시길 바란다”고 전했다.
