평소 종착역 도착기준으로 24:00까지 운행하던 도시철도를 1호선은 02:04, 2호선은 02:11, 3호선은 02:18까지 연장운행 한다. 

또 귀성객이 많은 동대구역에서는 열차가 00:10, 00:30, 00:50, 01:30에 설화명곡방면과 안심방면으로 동시에 출발할 예정이다. 다만 각 역마다 열차 출발시각이 다르므로 미리 확인하고 이용하여야 한다.

특히 비상상황을 대비해 호선별로 2대, 총 6대의 비상대기 열차도 준비해 둘 계획이며 동대구역에는 안전인력을 추가 배치해 귀성객과 시민들이 안전하게 도시철도를 이용할 수 있도록 할 계획이다.

대구교통공사 사장은“설연휴 대구를 찾는 시민들의 교통편의를 위해 특별히 연장운행을 결정한 만큼 대중교통인 도시철도를 많이 이용해 주시길 바란다”고 밝혔다.
