이들은 “대구시가 지난해 6월 내놓은 제2차 도시철도망 구축계획안에서 혁신도시가 3호선 연장선에서 빠진 것은 납득하기 어렵다”고 지적했다. 

특히 공식 의견수렴 기간이 주말을 제외하면 사흘밖에 되지 않았다며, “십 수 년 기다려온 사업이 행정의 일방적 결정에 무너졌다”고 강하게 반발했다.

혁신도시는 공공기관 이전과 산학연 협력을 토대로 국가 균형 발전을 위해 조성됐지만, 여전히 대중교통 접근성은 부족하다는 지적이 꾸준히 제기된다. 

참석자들은 “정주 여건이 개선되지 않은 상태에서 제2공공기관 유치나 지역 활성화를 말하는 건 현실성이 없다”고 말하며 “도시철도 연장은 혁신도시 활성화의 핵심 인프라”라고 강조했다.

대구시가 혁신도시 연장 제외 사유로 ‘경제성 부족’을 들고 있는 것에 대해서도, 시민들은 강하게 이의를 제기했다. 

제2대구수목원 조성, 안심뉴타운 내 대규모 아울렛 입점 등 각종 개발 호재로 인해 향후 교통 수요가 늘어날 것이라며, “단기 수요만 바라보다 중장기 도시 변화와 생활권 통합을 놓치고 있다”고 주장했다.

이밖에도 이들은 “도시철도가 경산, 하양 등 외곽으로는 확장되어 왔지만, 동부 생활권 이동은 여전히 반월당 환승에만 의존하는 구조”라며, 3호선 연장 문제는 단순한 노선이 아닌 “도시 교통 체계의 불균형을 바로잡는 문제”라고 짚었다.

서명에는 정책토론 청구 요건인 1,200명을 넘어, 1,300여 명이 동참했다. 참석자들은 이 서명이 “일방적 행정에 대한 시민 경고이자, 약속을 반드시 지키라는 명령”이라고 목소리를 높였다.

They argued that, "by focusing only on short-term demand, we are missing out on mid- to long-term urban transformation and integrated living areas."

Furthermore, they argued that, "While the subway has expanded to the outskirts, such as Gyeongsan and Hayang, transportation in the eastern part of the city still relies solely on the Banwoldang transfer." They emphasized that the Line 3 extension is not simply a matter of route, but rather "a matter of correcting the imbalance in the city's transportation system."

Over 1,300 people signed the petition, exceeding the 1,200 signatures required for policy discussion. Participants called it "a warning to citizens against unilateral administration and a command to keep promises."
