2011년 구성되어 올해로 딱 10년째를 맞이한 ‘혁신도시발전위원회’가 17일 대구경북첨단의료산업진흥재단 국제회의장에서 합의문 서명 등 제2의 대구혁신도시 도약을 선언했다.

대구시와 혁신도시 입주 공공기관의 상생을 위한 10년간의 노력에도 불구하고 아직은 그 효율성이 떨어진다는 지적이 줄곧 제기되어 왔다. 

위원장인 권영진 대구시장을 비롯해 이전공공기관 및  지원기관장 등 20여 명이 참석한 이날 회의에서는 그동안 줄기차게 지적되고 해법을 모색해왔던 ①혁신도시 인근 정주여건 개선 추진상황 및 코로나 상생협력사업 성과 보고 ②혁신도시 뉴딜 추진전략 과제 심의 ③공공기관별 대표과제 토론과 합의문 서명 등이 이어졌다

다음 회의에서는 이번 위원회의 주요 안건이었던 이전 공공기관 연계 상생협업 뉴딜 추진전략 및 공공기관별 대표과제에 대한 토혼이 있을 것으로 전망되고 있지만 핵심내용인 산업진흥·교육학술·상생협력 등 3대 분야 36개 세부사업에 대한 대구시와 공공기관 및 지원기관의 협력이 제대로 이뤄질지는 미지수다. 

아무래도 지역민들이 혁신도시에 대한 매력을 크게 느끼지 못하는 것이 가장 큰 걸림돌이 될 전망인데다, 코로나 19로 인한 경제 침체의 장기화와 더불어 지역 경제에 이들 기관이 크게 기여하는 바가 눈에 잘 띄지 않는다는 점에서 ‘혁신도시 도약 2‘에 대한 기대보다는 부정적 기류가 흐르기 때문이다.

그럼에도 대구시와 이들 기관은 이같은 아젠다를 지속적으로 발굴·추진하면서 혁신도시를 지역균형 뉴딜 거점으로 발전시킬 계획으로 알려졌다. 산업과 교육, 상생 협력 분야에서 36개 사업이 추진될 예정으로 사업의 구체성도 정해졌다.

이날 권영진 대구시장은 “코로나19 위기극복 및 지역균형발전을 위해 혁신도시 활성화 뉴딜사업 발굴에 적극 앞장서주신 공공기관 및 지원기관 관계자 여러분께 감사드린다”며 “공공기관과 지역사회·지자체가 함께 노력해 뉴딜정책을 확산하고 지역 발전을 위해 상호 협력해 달라”고  당부했다.
