대구 동구청(구청장 윤석준)은 산림청이 추진하는 2023년 목재친화도시 조성사업 공모에 최종 선정됐다고 24일 밝혔다.

목재친화도시 조성사업은 콘크리트 중심의 도시를 목재로 전환해 탄소 중립도시를 실현하고자 산림청에서 지난해부터 추진하는 공모사업이다. 오는 2029년까지 전국 17개소 조성을 목표로 하고, 1개소 당 사업비 50억 원이 투입되는 대형 국책 사업이다.

이번에 선정된 불로동은 풍부한 역사자원과 자연자원을 보유한 곳으로, 특히 국립공원 승격을 준비하고 있는 영남지역 명산 팔공산과 생태자원의 보고인 국가하천 금호강, 천연기념물 제1호 도동측백나무 숲, 국가사적 262호 불로동고분군으로 둘러싸여 목재친화도시 최적지로 평가 받았다. 또, 불로동은 시간대별 유동인구가 최대 34만 명이 이르는 등 사업 파급효과 역시 풍부하다. 

또 불로동과 인접한 210만 평 규모의 공항후적지가 도심 속 숲인 스카이시티로 조성될 계획이며, 대구광역시 역시 ‘탄소중립선도도시’를 선포하는 등 불로동은 목재친화도시로 최적의 여건을 갖췄다. 

 대구 동구청은 ‘목향만리(木香萬里) 불로고분마을’이란 이름으로 오는 2026년까지 목재친화도시 사업을 펼치게 된다.

 ‘숲과 숨 쉬며 나무와 공존하는 걷고 싶은 불로고분마을 만들기’라는 비전으로 목재를 통한 주민 삶의 질 향상과 지역경제 활력증진이 목표다. 세부적으로는 목재특화거리 조성, 건축물 내 목재이용, 목공체험센터 조성, 목재교육프로그램 운영 등 9개 세부사업이 추진된다.

 윤석준 동구청장은 “ 2년차를 맞이한 도시재생뉴딜사업과 이번에 선정된 목재친화도시사업을 연계해 사업성과를 극대화 할 수 있도록 하겠다."며"오랜 역사를 갖고 있는 불로동의 가치를 지키고 동시에 지역 맞춤 전략을 통해 주민 삶의 질이 크게 향상 될 수 있도록 하겠다. ”고 말했다.
