【브레이크뉴스 대구】박은정 기자=대구시(시장 홍준표)는 2일 ㈜코아오토모티브(대표 김원석)와 구동모터코어 전용 연구소 및 제조공장 대구국가산업단지 내 건립을 위한 투자협약을 체결했다고 밝혔다.

시에 따르면 ㈜코아오토모티브는 전기차 모터의 핵심부품인 구동모터코어를 생산하는 전문기업으로 대구국가산업단지 내 40,475㎡ 부지에 760억 원을 투자해 전용공장과 연구소를 건립하고 대구로 본사를 이전할 계획이다.

㈜코아오토모티브는 최근 급속히 성장하고 있는 글로벌 자동차 전동화 부품 시장에서 사업기회를 확보하고 대표기업으로 도약하기 위해 모기업인 ㈜고아정공에서 친환경차용 구동모터부문을 분할해 설립됐다.

전기차의 심장에 해당하는 모터의 핵심부품인 구동모터코어를 생산하여 LG마그나이파워트레인을 통해 제너럴모터스(GM),포드,재규어 등 글로벌 완성차 업체에 납품하고 있다. 

최근 급증하고 있는 글로벌 수주 물량에 대응하기 위해 2024년 9월 준공 예정인 대구 신규공장을 연(年) 100만대의 친환경차용 부품 전문 생산공장으로 운영할 예정이다.

또 기존 구동모터코어 사업뿐만 아니라 저출력 구동모터, 하이퍼루프 트랙 및 레일사업 등 신규 사업으로의 확장도 추진해, 지역에서 추진하고 있는 미래모빌리티 모터 산업 육성과 맞추어 2030년까지 구동모터 부품의 글로벌 Top 10, 매출 1조 기업으로 성장해 나가겠다는 계획이다. 

김원석 ㈜코아오토모티브 대표는 “대구시에서 추진하고 있는 모빌리티 모터 특화단지 등 육성정책과의 협업을 통한 시너지 효과를 기대하고 있다. 이번 투자를 통해 전문화된 조직 육성과 전동화의 핵심부품인 모터라는 확실하고 강력한 성장 모멘텀에 집중해 지역을 대표하는 글로벌 수준의 친환경차용 부품 전문회사로 성장하겠다”고 밝혔다.

홍준표 대구시장은 “국내 모터코어 생산 대표기업인 ㈜코아오토모티브의 투자가 대구시가 미래모빌리티 중심도시로의 본격적인 도약을 알리는 신호탄이 될 것"이라며 “앞으로 대구뿐만 아니라 대한민국을 대표하는 친환경차 핵심부품 대표기업으로 성장할 수 있도록 행정적·정책적 지원을 아끼지 않겠다”고 말했다.
