【브레이크뉴스 대구】진예솔 기자=DGIST(총장 국양)는 교양학부 박종래 교수가 제56회 과학의 날을 맞아 과학진흥유공 부문에서 과학기술정보통신부 장관표창을 수상했다고 21일 밝혔다.

과학기술정보통신부는 과학기술인의 자긍심, 명예심을 고양하고 사기를 진작시켜 국가과학기술 혁신에 기여하고자 과학기술 발전에 공헌한 자에게 포상하는 ‘과학의날 기념 장관표창제도’를 실시하고 있다.

올해 장관표창을 수상한 DGIST 박종래 교수는 디자인학 박사로서 이공계학부생들에게 ‘디자인사고’ 교과과정 운영을 통해 창의적 발상법과 공학에 필요한 디자인 기초소양을 지도하고 있다. 

박 교수는 평소 이공계 학생들의 사회공헌에 주목하고, 2019년부터 학생들이 가지고 있는 과학 및 공학 지식을 국립과학관을 통해 지역 청소년들에게 전달하는 시민과학 프로젝트를 기획하여 성공리에 수행하였으며, 그간의 공로를 인정받아 제56회 과학의 날 ‘과학기술정보통신부 장관표창’을  수상했다.

박종래 교수는 DGIST 교육철학 중 ‘기여(Contribution)’ 정신에 주목하고, 대학 이공계 교육의 사회적 확장이라는 개념을 도입했다. 이공계 학생 주도로 지역 토착기술을 발굴하는 ‘북성로 공구골목 프로젝트,’ 이공계 학생 주도로 DGIST 후각융합연구센터 기술개발 연구성과를 전시콘텐츠로 개발한 ‘향기과학캠프’, 이공계 학생이 전시해설 투어를 담당하는 ‘과학관 산책’ 등 다양한 프로젝트를 통해 이공계 학생들이 사회에 공헌할 수 있는 장을 마련하고 진행했다.

DGIST 박종래 교수는 “그간의 활동을 통해 이공계 특성화대학과 국립과학관의 협업 모델을 확립하고 시민들이 주도적으로 참여하는 생활밀착형 과학관 만들기를 구상하고 있다.”며, “과학자의 꿈을 품은 청소년들에게 동기부여 및 이공계 진출을 적극 유도하며 국가 과학기술진흥의 기반이 되는 과학대중화 실천에 기여할 수 있도록 지속적인 노력을 하겠다.”고 밝혔다.

DGIST (President Kook Yang) announced that Professor Park Jong-rae of the Department of Liberal Arts was awarded the Minister of Science and Technology Information and Communication Award in the science promotion category on the 56th Science Day.

The Ministry of Science and ICT is implementing the ‘Science Day Commemoration Minister’s Commendation System’ to reward those who have contributed to the development of science and technology in order to contribute to national science and technology innovation by enhancing the pride and honor of scientists and engineers and boosting their morale.

Professor Park Jong-rae of DGIST, who received the Minister's Citation this year, is a Ph.D. in design and is guiding science and engineering undergraduate students to learn creative ideas and basic design skills required for engineering through the 'Design Thinking' curriculum.

Professor Park usually pays attention to the social contribution of science and engineering students, and since 2019, he planned and successfully carried out a citizen science project to deliver science and engineering knowledge of students to local youth through the National Science Museum. In recognition, he was awarded the 'Commendation from the Minister of Science and Technology Information and Communication' on the 56th Science Day.

Professor Park Jong-rae paid attention to the spirit of ‘contribution’ in DGIST’s educational philosophy and introduced the concept of social expansion of university science and engineering education. 'Bukseong-ro Tool Alley Project' led by science and engineering students to discover local indigenous technologies, 'Fragrance Science Camp', which developed research results of DGIST Smell Convergence Research Center technology development as exhibition contents led by science and engineering students, and science and engineering students in charge of exhibition commentary tour Through various projects such as the 'Science Museum walk', we prepared and carried out a place for science and engineering students to contribute to society.

Professor Park Jong-rae of DGIST said, “Through our activities so far, we are establishing a collaboration model between specialized universities in science and engineering and the National Science Museum, and we are envisioning a science museum that is close to life in which citizens take the lead in participating.” We will continue to make efforts to contribute to the practice of popularizing science, which is the foundation of national science and technology promotion, by actively encouraging students to enter the science and engineering fields.”
