7일 오후 4시 대구경북과학기술원 회의실에서 배춘식 달성군 부군수, 이건우 대구경북과학기술원 총장을 포함한 양 기관의 관계자들이 참석한 가운데 협약식이 개최됐다.

이는 DGIST의 우수한 교육 및 과학기술 역량을 바탕으로 과학영재학교를 유치 및 설립해 지역의 우수한 인재 영입과 함께 지역 교육의 발전을 도모하고자 마련됐다.

협약은 ▶과학영재학교와 과학영재교육원 운영 및 발전 방안 적극 기여 ▶달성군의 과학영재학교 유치 및 과학영재교육원 설립을 위한 행·재정적 지원 ▶대구경북과학기술원의 과학교육 기반 우수 학생을 위한 인적 자원과 인프라 적극 지원 등을 주요골자로 한다.

이를 기반으로 양 기관은 달성군 내 과학영재학교 설립 예정 부지를 선제적으로 마련하고 지역 영재를 위한 교육 프로그램 및 특성화 전략을 마련하해 혁신 타운 조성에 힘쓸 예정이다.

 배춘식 부군수는 “명품 교육 도시를 만들기 위해서는 우수 인재 양성을 위한 기반 구축이 핵심이며, 과학영재학교 유치를 통해 지역과 국가의 발전을 위한 글로벌 인재를 양성하는 데 우리 달성이 그 중심에 있기를 기대한다”며 “앞으로도 아이 키우기 좋은 맞춤형 교육 도시를 만들기 위해 최선을 다하겠다”라고 말했다.
