추경호 의원이 건강보험심사평가원(이하 심평원)에서 받은 지난 10년간 연령대별 마약류 및 향정신성의약품 처방 현황 자료에 따르면 2023년 말 기준 1인당 처방량이 20대에서 2.6배, 10대에서 2.1배 증가한 것으로 나타났다.

지난 10년간 가장 높은 증가율을 보인 것은 불안 및 우울증 치료제로 정신신경용제(아프라졸람, 디아제팜 등)의 경우 1인당 처방량이 10대 이하는 2.8배, 20대는 2.6배, 30대도 2.1배 증가했다.

특히 20대는 인구가 감소하는것에 반해 불안 및 우울증 치료를 받은 환자 수는  전 연령대에서 유일하게 증가하고 있는 것이 확인됐다. 불면증 치료를 위한 최면진정제의 1인당 처방량도 약 2배(1.8배) 가까이 증가하는 등 가장 심각한 상태다.

이에 추경호 의원은 “우울증 치료를 위한 마약류 처방량 증가는 그만큼 청년들이 아프다는 증거”라고 설명했다.

그러면서 “단순한 개인의 문제가 아니라 사회 구조적 문제와 맞닿아 있다”며 “정치권을 비롯해 국가와 사회가 정책적 지원을 강화하여 미래세대를 위한 희망을 만들어내야 한다”고 강조했다.
