이번 상습 교통정체구간 개선은 지난 1월 9일부터 약 3개월 동안 도로교통공단 경북지부와 협업하여 드론 및 시험용차량을 이용한 세밀한 현장 조사 방식으로 진행했다.

이번 조사로 밝혀진 상습 정체 지역으로는 안동시 교리교차로~송현오거리, 칠곡군 매원사거리~로얄사거리 등 2개 구간과 구미시 사곡오거리, 경산시 영대오거리·환상사거리, 김천시 이마트사거리·직지교사거리 등 총 27개 교차로이다.

먼저 경찰은 경북도청 신도시가 개발된 이후 교통량급증으로 정체가 심했던 안동시 교리교차로 ~ 송현오거리 구간 9개 교차로의 신호체계를 조정으로 기존 지체시간 30.3초대에서 21.1초대로, 칠곡군 매원사거리 ∼ 로얄사거리 구간 13개 교차로는 112.4초에서 39.5초로 각각 30.4%, 64.9%를 개선했다.

이 두 구간의 경제적 효과는 차량운행비 연간 10억 7천만 원, 시간가치비용 24억 4천만 원, 환경비용은 8천만 원의 절감 효과가 있을 것으로 보여진다.

문용호 경북경찰청 교통과장은 “상습 정체 구간에 대해서 중·장기 개선방안 마련과 함께 지자체 등 관계기관과의 지속적인 협업으로  정체구간 해소에 최선을 다하겠다”고 밝혔다.
