27일 경북경찰청(청장 김철문)에 따르면 2024년 도내 고속도로 사망자 23명 중 중부내륙고속도로 1개 노선에서만 사망자가 11명 발생하여 절반 가까이 차지하고 있으며, 경상북도를 가로지르는10개 노선 평균 치사율(7.8%)에 비해 2배가 넘는 것(16.9%)으로 나타났다.

또한, 고속도로 사망사고 발생 원인으로는 선행차량 후미 추돌사고가 가장많이 발생(78%, 18건)했으며, 그 다음으로 도로공사 현장을 통과하며 작업인부를 충돌하는 사고(13%, 3건)가 많이 발생했다.

이에 경북경찰은 연말까지 중부내륙선 위주 교통사고 예방 활동을강화한다. 운전자 대상 안전거리 미확보 차량에 대한 단속을 강화하고, 도로관리청인 한국도로공사에도 안전시설 개선 및 졸음운전시간대 순찰활동 증대 등 안전조치 강화를 요구할 예정이다.

경북경찰 관계자는 “중부내륙고속도로의 경우 대형 화물차량 통행이 많고 지·정체가 자주 발생하기에 선행 차량과의 안전거리를 꼭 유지하여 주시고, 졸음을 참으며 무리하게 운전하는 일이 없도록 주의하여 달라”고 당부했다.
