울릉군(군수 남한권)은 지난 15일 한국전력공사와 ‘하계 전력수급 안정 및 수요관리 제도 운영’을 위한 업무협약(MOU)을 체결했다고 밝혔다. 이날 협약식에는 남한권 울릉군수와 이상식 울릉군의회 의장을 비롯해 군의원 등 관계자들이 참석했다.

양 기관은 이번 협약을 통해 여름철 전력 수요가 급증하는 시기에 선제적으로 대응하고, 안정적인 전력 수요 관리 체계를 마련하기로 뜻을 모았다.

협약의 주요 내용은 ▲한전의 수요관리 제도 수립 및 시행 ▲울릉군과의 정보 공유 및 협력 ▲전력 수요 급증 시를 대비한 비상 연락체계 구축 ▲전력 감축 유도 및 참여자 지원 등이다.

‘수요관리 제도’는 고압 이상의 전력을 사용하는 기업이나 기관과 사전 약정을 통해 전력 사용을 줄이도록 유도하고, 감축 실적에 따라 인센티브를 제공하는 방식이다. 전력 피크 시간대에 전력 수요를 효율적으로 분산시켜 정전 위험을 줄이고 전력 공급의 안정성을 높이는 데 효과가 크다.

남한권 울릉군수는 “이번 업무협약은 에너지 위기 대응뿐 아니라 울릉군민의 안정적인 생활을 위한 의미 있는 첫걸음”이라며 “앞으로도 한국전력과의 협력을 바탕으로 지속 가능한 에너지 정책을 추진해 나가겠다”고 말했다.
