의성군(군수 김주수)은 25일 군청 대회의실에서 경상북도, 샘표식품, 영남대학교 세포배양연구소와 ‘경상북도 세포배양산업 육성을 위한 다자간 업무협약(MOU)’을 체결했다.
이날 협약식에는 의성군과 경상북도, 기업 및 연구기관 관계자 등 18명이 참석해 세포배양산업 발전을 위한 협력 의지를 공유했다.
협약에 따라 참여 기관들은 ▲안전하고 효과적인 세포배양 배지 개발 및 생산·보급 ▲인실리코(in silico) 기술을 활용한 식품소재 개발을 위한 연구 컨소시엄 및 기술 지원 ▲의성 바이오밸리 일반산업단지 내 샘표식품 연구소 설치 검토 등 다양한 분야에서 협력을 추진한다.
샘표식품은 1946년 창업 이후 국내 식문화를 선도해 온 기업으로, 최근에는 전통 발효 기술을 기반으로 바이오 소재 사업을 확대하고 있다. 특히 B2B 펩타이드 브랜드 ‘펩리치(Peprich)’를 통해 바이오 기업과 협력을 강화하고 있으며, 펩톤 소재 관련 인프라도 구축하고 있다.
의성군은 지난 2016년부터 세포배양 배지 국산화를 목표로 바이오산업을 전략적으로 육성해왔으며, 현재 의성 바이오밸리 일반산업단지 준공을 앞두고 있다. 군은 이를 통해 지역 경제 활성화와 함께 바이오산업 중심지로의 도약을 기대하고 있다.
김주수 의성군수는 “국내 대표 식품기업과 협력하게 되어 의미가 크다”며 “세포배양산업이 안정적으로 정착할 수 있도록 협약 기관들과 긴밀한 협력체계를 구축하고 행정적 지원을 아끼지 않겠다”고 밝혔다.

Uiseong County has set out in earnest to foster the cell culture industry, which is garnering attention as a future growth engine.
On the 25th, Uiseong County (County Governor Kim Ju-su) signed a "Multilateral Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the Development of the Cell Culture Industry in Gyeongsangbuk-do" with Gyeongsangbuk-do Province, Sempio Foods, and the Cell Culture Research Institute of Yeungnam University at the County Office Conference Room.
Eighteen people, including officials from Uiseong County, Gyeongsangbuk-do Province, companies, and research institutions, attended the signing ceremony to share their commitment to cooperation for the development of the cell culture industry.
Under the agreement, the participating organizations will pursue cooperation in various fields, including: ▲ development, production, and distribution of safe and effective cell culture media; ▲ research consortia and technical support for the development of food materials utilizing in silico technology; and ▲ consideration of establishing a Sempio Foods research institute within the Uiseong Bio Valley General Industrial Complex. Sempio Foods, a company that has led Korea's food culture since its founding in 1946, has recently been expanding its bio-materials business based on traditional fermentation technology. In particular, the company is strengthening cooperation with bio firms through its B2B peptide brand "Peprich" and is also building infrastructure related to peptone materials.
Since 2016, Uiseong County has strategically fostered the bio-industry with the goal of localizing cell culture media, and the completion of the Uiseong Bio Valley General Industrial Complex is currently imminent. Through this, the county anticipates revitalizing the local economy and taking a leap forward as a hub for the bio-industry.
Uiseong County Governor Kim Ju-su stated, "It is highly significant to cooperate with a leading domestic food company," adding, "We will establish a close cooperative system with the signatory organizations and spare no administrative support to ensure the stable establishment of the cell culture industry."
