22일 대구를 찾은 4.16 진실버스는 국민의 힘 대구시당 앞에서 1차 기자회견을 가졌다. 이어 30분 뒤 버스는  더불어민주당 대구시당으로 자리를 옮겼다. 대구지역 416연대는 피해자들을 위한 추모묵념 이후 세월호 참사 박근혜 대통령 기록물 공개 국회결의와 조사기간 연장, 공소시효 정지, 사회적참사특별조사위원회 인력충원, 수사권 보장, 사회적참사 특별법 개정 및 세월호 참사 수사와 기소를 위한 특별검사 임명 등을 요구했다.

발언에 나선 이길우 민주노총대구지역본부장은 "세월호가 침몰한 그해 반드시 진상을 규명하고 다시는 이런 사회 만들지 않겠다, 학생들에게 부끄럽지 않은 어른이 되겠다고 약속했는데 6년이 지난 지금도 지키지 못한 죄책감이 앞선다"며 안타까움을 전하기도 했다.

이어 그는 국민의 힘 대구시당 앞에 걸린 '국민이 죽었습니다. 대통령은 어디에 있습니까?'라는 내용의 현수막을 언급하며 "현수막을 보니 너무나 안타깝다. 304명의 학생과 교직원들이 왜, 어떻게 죽었는지 알고 싶다고 요구했을 때 국민의 힘이 저 현수막을 내걸었다면 오늘까지 피해학생 부모들이 전국을 다니면서 이런 투쟁을 하겠는가"라며 목소리를 높였다.

한편, 대구416연대는 발언과 기자회견문 낭독 이후 국민의힘 대구시당에 요구안을 전달할 예정이었으나 국민의 힘 대구시당은 "요구안을 우체통에 두고 가라"며 요구안 전달을 거부했다.

국민의 힘 당사를 떠난 이들은 곧바로 5분거리의 더불어민주당 대구시당으로 자리를 옮겼다. 진실규명 약속 이행을 촉구하는 내용의 서한을 전달한 이들은 다음 행선지로 출발했다.

대구시당 관계자는 “세월호 참사의 비극이 우리 사회에 큰 교훈을 남겼지만 비극의 본질인 진실규명에는 이르지 못했다. 대한민국이 더 안전한 사회로 나아가기 위해 여야 정치권 모두가 그날의 진실을 규명하는데 적극 동참해야 한다”며 대구시당 또한 세월호 유가족의 아픔과 슬픔에 공감하고 세월호 참사 진상규명을 위한 노력에 함께 하겠다고 답했다.
