경북도는 6일 오후 이철우 경북도지사와  최성광 메타경북 민관합동추진위원장, 유철균 대구경북연구원장을 비롯한 관계자들이 참석한 가운데 ‘메타버스 수도 경북 기본계획’을 발표하며 경북도를 세계 대표 메타버스 선도 지역으로 발전하겠다는 구상을 밝혔다.

이철우 도시자는 기본 계획으로 1) 새로운 기회를 통한 돈되는 메타버스, 2) 새로운 관계를 통한 사람들이 몰리는 메타버스 3)새로운 영토를 창출하는 디지털로의 통합하는 메타버스 등  3대 방향을 제시했다. 

이와 함께 특화사업으로 한류 메타버스 거점 조성과 글로벌 메타버스 혁신특구 조성을 제시했다. 

이철우 지사는 “거점 조성을 위해서는 한류 통합 커뮤니케이션센터와 한류 메타버스 월드, 메타버스 데이터센터 설립이 중요하다 ”면서 “세계적 브랜드인 한류 콘텐츠를 지속해서 성장․확산시킬 글로벌 플랫폼 구축과 한류 쇼어링(Shoring)을 주도할 계획”이라고 밝혔다. 

혁신특구 조성과 관련해서는 국내 메타버스 융합산업 선도 및 글로벌진출을 위한 전진기지 활용을 적극 대변했다.

정부의 ‘글로벌 혁신특구 정책’과 연계한다면 규제특례, 조세감면, 정주여건 등 지원 인프라 조성도 수월할 뿐 아니라 특구 내 세계적 수준의 테스트베드, 기업 및 연구소 등의 유치에도 유리하다는 게 경북도의 기대다.

이를 통해 경북도는 콘텐츠와 인력양성, 디지털 미디어, 혁신스타트업 거점 조성에 박차를 가한다는 방침이다.

이철우 도지사는 “기본계획의 원활한 달성을 위해 기반 조성에서부터 인력양성, 기업 육성, 생태계 활성에 이르기까지 분야별로 메타버스 사업을 차질없이 준비해 나가겠다”면서 “오는 2026년까지 메타버스 육성 거점 5곳을 구축하고 R&D 콘텐츠 150건을 개발함과 동시에 마케팅․인증․실증 등 1천 615개의 기업지원과 6천260면의 크리에이터 등 인력 양성, 가상도민(메타인구) 1000만 명 유치를 실현하겠다”는 포부를 밝혔다. 

더불어 이철우 도지사는 이를 통한 지역발전 유발효과는 생산 6천889억원, 부가가치유발 3천275억원, 취업유발 5천 353명이라는 파급효과가 발생할 것으로 예견하면서 “4차 산업혁명 시대 무한 경쟁에 직면한 경북이 다시 과거의 영광을 누리기 위해서는 메타버스 시대의 주도권을 차지해야 하는데 경북이 대한민국을 넘어 세계적인 메타버스 수도로 도약하기 위해 도는 물론 중앙정부와 시․도민 여러분들이 함께 힘을 모아달라”고 당부했다.
