【브레이크뉴스 경북】이성현 기자=지구촌 곳곳에 새마을 운동을 전파한 새마을재단이 창립 10주년을 맞아 12일 구미 새마을운동테마공원에서 기념행사를 가졌다고 밝혔다.

12일, 열린 행사에는 이철우 경북도지사, 박영서 도의회 부의장, 임종석 교육감, 이강덕 포항시장(경북시장군수협의회장), 김장호 구미시장 등 도내 기관단체장과 새마을 관계자 100여명이 함께 10주년을 기념했다.

새마을재단은 지난 2012년 10월 구미 임수동 경북경제진흥원에서 개소식을 열고 아시아, 아프리카 중남미 등에 세계 빈곤퇴치 실천 모델로 새마을운동을 국제무대로 알리며 명실상부 해외 새마을사업의 전초기지로서의 역할을 다해 왔다.

올해 6월 명칭을 새마을세계화재단에서 새마을재단으로 변경하고 새로운 10년의 국내외 새마을운동을 선도하는 기관으로 자리매김하고 있다.

이번 10주년 기념행사는 ‘새마을, 위대한 유산에서 미래 자산으로’라는 주제로 재단 명칭 변경을 기념하는 현판 제막식과 유공자 표창, 비전 선포식 등으로 진행됐다.

이철우 경북도지사“대한민국이 불과 반세기 만에 정치와 경제발전을 동시에 이루고 원조를 받는 나라에서 주는 나라로 변모한 그 중심에 새마을운동이 있다”며, “새마을운동을 통해 가난을 끊어내고 대한민국의 산업화와 민주화를 이끌었던 경북의 힘으로 새로운 대한민국을 선도해 나가는 길에 새마을재단도 함께 해 달라”고 당부했다.

한편, 경북도는 새마을운동을 시작한 종주도로서 도청 조직에 새마을과가 유일하게 있으며, 새마을재단을 산하기관으로 두고 국내외 새마을교육과 더불어 아프리카 아시아 16개국 72개 새마을시범마을 및 새마을포럼, 새마을 해외연구소 등 다양한 사업을 활발하게 펼치고 있다.
