대구경북경제자유구역청에 따르면 19일 영천시청에서 최삼룡 대구경북경제자유구역청장, 이달희 경상북도경제부지사, 최기문 영천시장, 정서진 ㈜화신 대표이사, 경상북도 의회 의원 등이 참석한 가운데, 대구경북경제자유구역 경북권(포항, 경산, 영천) 국내복귀 1호 기업인 ㈜화신과 투자양해각서를 체결한 것으로 알려졌다.

㈜화신은 경북 영천에 본사를 두고 자동차 샤시(Chassis) 부품 및 바디(Body) 부품 제조에 전념해온 글로벌 자동차 부품 기업으로, 1975년 화신제작소 설립을 시작으로 코티나 자동차의 프론트 로어암, 어퍼암에 이어 국내 최초의 고유 모델이었던 포니 자동차의 부품을 생산하면서 자동차 샤시 부품 전문 기업으로 선장해왔다.  

현재 샤시 및 바디(Chassis & Body)의 주요부품을 모듈품 및 개별품 형태로 생산해 납품하면서 국내 최대 자동차 메이커인 현대기아자동차그룹의 자동차 관련 계열사를 주요 고객으로 하고 있다. 

화신은 글로벌 공급망을 둘러싼 미·중간의 분쟁으로 중국 창주(창저우) 공장의 생산 규모를 축소하는 대신, 대구경북경제자유구역 영천하이테크파크지구에 2025년까지 800억원을 투자하기로 했다. 이곳에서는 약 61,884㎡(18,720평) 부지에 경량화 샤시 부품 및 전기차 배터리 팩 케이스 제조시설을 신설, 120여개의 일자리를 창출할 계획으로 알려졌다. 화신은  곧 대구경북경제자유구역청과 입주계약을 체결하고, 경북도-영천시와 국내복귀 투자 보조금 지원을 위한 협의를 진행할 예정이다.  

최삼룡 대구경북경제자유구역청장은 “본격적으로 전기차 시대에 접어드는 가운데, 지역의 글로벌 자동차 중견기업인 ㈜화신이 전기차용 친환경·경량부품 생산 및 배터리 팩 케이스 제조를 위해 대구경북경제자유구역 영천하이테크파크지구에 둥지를 틀게 되면, 지역 내 일자리 창출 및 지역경제 활성화에 많은 기여를 할 것으로 기대된다.”며, “(주)화신의 영천하이테크파크지구 투자는 해외에 기(旣) 진출한 지역의 전통 내연기관 부품 중소 ‧ 중견기업들에게 ‘국내복귀’라는 새로운 사업 모델을 제시하게 될 것 이라고”말했다.

  Currently, while producing and supplying main parts of the chassis and body in the form of modular products and individual products, it is targeting automobile-related affiliates of Hyundai-Kia Motors Group, the largest automobile maker in Korea, as its main customers.

Hwashin decided to invest 80 billion won by 2025 in the Yeongcheon High-Tech Park District in the Daegu-Gyeongbuk Free Economic Zone, instead of reducing the production scale of its Changzhou (Changzhou) plant in China due to a dispute between the US and China over the global supply chain. It is known that there is a plan to create about 120 jobs by establishing new manufacturing facilities for lightweight chassis parts and electric vehicle battery pack cases on a site of about 61,884㎡ (18,720 pyeong).

Hwashin will soon sign a move-in contract with the Daegu-Gyeongbuk Free Economic Zone Authority, and plan to discuss with Gyeongbuk-do and Yeongcheon-si for subsidies for return investment.
