지난 26일 김병욱 의원은 포항시와 경주시가 공동으로 진행한 신 형산강 프로젝트가 환경부의 사업 공모 결과 최종 선정된 것을 환영한다며 이같이 밝혔다.

‘지역맞춤형 통합하천사업’은 국가 물관리 일원화 사업의 일환으로, 개별로 추진되던 치수, 이수, 수질 및 환경, 생태 등 분야를 통합 연계하여 추진하는 사업이다.

환경부와 지자체가 공동으로 추진하며, 환경부는 내년 말까지 사업대상지별 기본구상을 마련하고 2024년부터 2032년까지 단계적으로 사업을 추진할 계획이다. 사업비는 1곳당 최소 300억 원에서 최대 4000억 원 정도다.

포항시와 경주시가 환경부에 제출한 신 형산강 프로젝트는 활력·생태·상생·동행 4개 테마로 추진한다. 세부사업은 형산강 하도정비, 오천제 미세먼지차단숲, 뱃머리 생태숲길, 포항-포스코 동행인도교, 형산강 체육공원, 형산강 장미원, 연일제 산책로, 해송 어선정박장 조성 등이다.

김병욱 의원은 “태풍 힌남노로 안전에 대한 시민의 우려가 많았는데, 홍수예방과 환경개선뿐만 아니라 친수공간까지 조성하는 사업의 대상지로 선정되어 기쁘다”며, “다만, 형산강은 국가하천이기 때문에 정비사업을 추진할 때 형산강 내 수은 유출로 형성된 오염토 제거까지 국가가 반드시 책임져야 한다”고 강조했다.
