반면, 행사장을 찾지 않은 지역 현역들도 상당수였다. 대구에서는 주호영, 윤재옥, 추경호, 김용판, 류성걸, 강대식 의원 등이, 경북에서는 김형동, 박형수, 김희국 의원이 불참했다. 이날 자녀 혼사가 있는 것으로 알려진 김석기 의원도 참석하지 못했다. 이들 대구경북 지역 의원들 외에 전국 각지에서도 비슷한 수의 현역의원들이 참석했다. 

의정활동은 낙제점 얼굴 비치는 것은 A+

같은 당 행사지만 이날 참석한 당의 한 관계자는 “구미 지역에 큰 사고나 국가적인 대형 행사가 있다고 한들 30여 명에 가까운 현역 국회의원들이 찾았을까 싶다”며 “설 민심 바로미터이자 모처럼 포근한 주말인 오늘 같은 날 각자의 지역구에도 행사나 민원들이 많았을 터인데 그런 것들을 모두 다 뒤로 하고 구미까지 찾아온 걸 보면 1년여 앞으로 다가온 총선에서의 공천이 이 사람들에게는 국가나 지역구의 문제보다 더 중요한 것 같다”고 씁쓸해했다.  

그는 이어 “대통령도, 당 대표도 공천권을 모두 회수해야 한다. 그래야 이런 볼썽사나운 일들이 벌어지지 않는다”고도 덧붙였다.

국회의원 본인들만 참석한 것도 아니다. 일부 의원들은 버스까지 동원해 당원들을 실어나른 흔적도 보였다. 특히, 경북 출정식이라고는 하지만 이날 행사장을 채운 3천여 명의 참가자들 가운데 상당수는 서울 송파을과 경남 양산, 경남 진주 등을 포함해 전국 각지에서 모여들었다.

한 참석자는 “대구와 경북지역보다 다른 지역에서 오신 분들이 더 많은 것 같다”고 말했다. 경산의 윤두현 의원은 아내와 함께 박정희 생가에서부터 행사장까지 부부 동반으로 얼굴을 보였다.

김기현 의원은 이날 행사 뒤 기자들과 만나 “당 지도부 선출은 자기 출세하라고, 다음 대통령 가기 위한 발판을 만들라고 뽑는 것이 아니다”며 “우리가 하려는 전당대회는 윤석열 정부를 성공시키기 위해, 뒷바라지 잘하기 위해 뽑는 것”이라고 강조했다. 그러면서 “대통령과 어긋나는 길로 가고 척지게 해 엄청난 갈등을 겪었던 지난 과거를 또다시 되풀이 하는 일은 없어야 한다”고 다른 후보들을 경계했다.
