대구시 교통약자 인구는 65만 7천여 명으로 전체인구의 27.5%를 차지하고 있으며 고령화로 인해 교통약자는 지속적인 증가추세에 있다.

대구시는 기준 적합성 검사를 교통수단과 여객시설 등을 설치하기 전에 이동 편의시설이 설치 기준에 맞는지 전문가로 구성된 점검반이 심사해 이동불편사항을 사전에 예방한다.

또 기 설치된 이동 편의시설이 교통약자에게 적합하게 유지·관리되고 있는지 실태조사를 통해 상시 점검하고 부적합 시설은 즉각 조치하거나 정비해 오고 있다.

지난해는 차량 진출입로 1,700개소를 대상으로 보도 색상 및 턱 높이 등에 대한 실태조사를 실시해 시설물 관리부서에 통보했고, 시내버스 정류장 119개소 및 도시철도역사 3개소에 대한 기준 적합성 사전검사를 통해 미비점을 보완했다.
