【브레이크뉴스 영천】이성현 기자=영천시는 14일부터 22일까지 9일간 영천체육관에서 선수단과 관계자 등 3,000여 명이 참가한 가운데 2023년 전국종별태권도선수권대회를 개최한다.
영천시에 따르면 이번 대회는 대한태권도협회가 주최하는 가장 큰 규모의 국내 태권도대회 중 하나로, 올해 대회에서는 고등부와 대학부를 포함한 일반부의 겨루기 종목 경기가 열릴 예정이다.
고등부는 1~3학년 각 학년부별로 남녀 10체급, 일반부는 8체급으로 구분해 기량을 겨루게 되며, 경기는 3전 다승제 방식을 적용해 토너먼트로 진행된다.
17일 오전 11시에는 개회식과 함께 대한태권도협회 소속 태권도시범단의 공연도 마련돼 풍성한 볼거리를 제공한다.
최기문 영천시장은 “대회 참가를 위해 영천을 찾아준 전국의 선수들이 안전하고 편안한 환경에서 최고의 기량을 발휘하기를 기대하며, 이와 함께 머무는 동안 아름다운 문화유산과 이색적인 관광지를 둘러보며 좋은 추억도 많이 담아 가길 바란다.”라며 인사말을 전했다.
한편, 영천시는 이 대회를 비롯해 경찰청장기 전국태권도대회, 대한민국독도수호태권도대회 등 대규모 전국대회를 개최해 오고 있으며, 시청 실업팀을 운영해 국가대표 선수를 배출하는 등 태권도 진흥에 적극 노력하고 있다.
