이번 학술대회에서는 현재 세계에서 활동 중인 모든 지역위원회가 참가해 유네스코 세계기록유산에서 지역목록이 가진 중요성을 공유하고 협업을 강화하는 방안을 모색한다.

‘유네스코 세계기록유산 지역위원회’는 각 지역의 ‘지역목록’ 등재와 관리를 맡고 있는 곳으로 유네스코는 세계 전체를 5개 지역으로 나누고 있으며, 현재 활동하는 지역은 3곳이다.

한국은 ‘유네스코 세계기록유산 아시아‧태평양 지역위원회’에 소속되어 있으며, 현재 이 사무국은 한국국학진흥원에 설치되어 있다.

더불어‘유네스코 세계기록유산 라틴아메리카·카리브해 지역위원회<MoWLAC: Memory of the World Committee for Latin America and the Caribbean>’가 활발하게 활동하고 있으며, ‘유네스코 세계기록유산 아프리카 지역위원회<ARCMoW: African Regional Committee Memory of the World>’역시 활동하고 있다.

이번 학술회의는 세계에서 활동하는 모든 지역위원회 활동의 중요성을 공유하고 지역위원회 간 협업 방안을 마련하기 위한 목적을 가지고 개최된다.

이를 위해 학술회의 시작 전 오전 11시에 MOWCAP과 MoWLAC, 그리고 ARCMOW의 의장들이 모두 참여하여 협업을 위한 MOU를 체결한다.

이 MOU를 기반으로 오후에 진행되는 학술대회에서는 MOWCAP(의장 : 김귀배/한국)과 MoWLAC(의장 : 피터 슐링/아루바), 그리고 ARCMOW(파파 모마르 디오프/세네갈) 의장들이 직접 각 지역 위원회 활동과 역할들을 소개하고, 각 지역위원회 의장단 내에서 지역위원회의 향후 도전과 협업 과제들을 제안하는 발표들이 이어질 예정이다.

더불어 세계기록유산 한국위원회 서경호 위원장과 MOWCAP 등재소위원회 위원인 아이자킨 코조베코바(키르키즈스탄)가 지역 및 국가위원회의 중요성과 역할들을 함께 고민함으로써, 지역위원회와 국가위원회의 협업 모델과 의미있는 관계정립을 위한 과제들을 제시할 예정이다.

이어 종합토론에서는 지역위원회 중심의 유네스코 세계기록유산 발전 모델 및 협업 방안을 논의할 예정이다.

이번 학술대회를 통해 한국국학진흥원은 기록유산 분야 세계 전문가들을 대상으로 우리 지역 중요 기록유산과 기록 정신을 알릴 예정이다. 또한 안동을 세계적인 세계기록유산 도시로 각인시키는 동시에 세계기록유산 분야에서 한국국학진흥원이 갖는 역할을 넓혀 갈 계획이다.

정종섭 한국국학진흥원 원장은 “이번 학술회의는 유네스코 세계기록유산의 협업 방안과 미래를 결정하는 중요한 회의로, 이 회의를 통해 한국국학진흥원이 세계기록유산의 핵심 기관으로 부상하는 중요한 계기가 될 것으로 예상한다”라고 밝혔다.

Korea Institute for the Advancement of Korean Studies holds UNESCO Memory of the World Inter-regional Academic Conference

The Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Korean Studies (Director Jeong Jong-seop) will hold a UNESCO Memory of the World Inter-regional Conference on October 27th and 28th at the Institute for the Promotion of Korean Studies' Humanities Training Center.

At this conference, all regional committees currently active around the world will participate to share the importance of regional lists in UNESCO's Memory of the World and seek ways to strengthen collaboration.

The ‘UNESCO Memory of the World Regional Committee’ is in charge of registering and managing the ‘regional list’ of each region. UNESCO divides the entire world into five regions, and three regions are currently active.

Korea belongs to the ‘UNESCO Memory of the World Asia-Pacific Regional Committee’, and this secretariat is currently established at the Korea Institute for the Promotion of Korean Studies.

In addition, the 'UNESCO Memory of the World Committee for Latin America and the Caribbean <MoWLAC: Memory of the World Committee for Latin America and the Caribbean>' is actively working, and the 'UNESCO Memory of the World African Regional Committee <ARCMoW: African Regional Committee Memory of the World> is also active.

   This academic conference is held with the purpose of sharing the importance of the activities of all regional committees active around the world and establishing ways to collaborate among regional committees.

To this end, at 11 a.m. before the start of the academic conference, the chairs of MOWCAP, MoWLAC, and ARCMOW all participate and sign an MOU for collaboration.

In addition, Seo Kyung-ho, Chairman of the Korean Committee for the Memory of the World, and Aizakin Kozobekova (Kyrgyzstan), a member of the MOWCAP Registration Subcommittee, discussed together the importance and roles of regional and national committees to establish a model for collaboration and meaningful relationships between regional and national committees. Tasks will be presented for this purpose.

  In the subsequent general discussion, regional committee-centered UNESCO Memory of the World development models and collaboration plans will be discussed.

Through this academic conference, the Korea Institute for the Advancement of Korean Studies plans to inform world experts in the field of documentary heritage about our region's important documentary heritage and the spirit of recording. In addition, we plan to establish Andong as a world-renowned city of Memory of the World while expanding the role of the Korea Institute for the Advancement of Korean Studies in the field of Memory of the World.
