【브레이크뉴스 경산】이성현 기자=발달장애인 권익 신장을 위해 현장을 지켜온 정연제 법제처 사무관(37)이 오는 8월 22일 대구대학교 2024학년도 후기 학위수여식에서 사회복지대학원 박사 학위를 받는다.
정 변호사는 지난 10년간 장애인, 노인, 사회복지사 등 사회적 약자를 지원하는 다양한 활동을 펼쳐왔다. 학대·성범죄 피해 발달장애인을 돕는 권리옹호 사업과 법률 행위 지원을 위한 공공후견지원 사업에 적극 참여했으며, 경찰관과 사회복지사를 대상으로 장애인 특성과 유의 사항을 교육하며 권익 보호를 위해 힘써왔다.
2018년에는 대한변호사협회 선정 우수변호사로도 이름을 올렸다. 정 변호사가 사회적 약자 편에 서게 된 이유는 본인 또한 뇌병변 3급 장애를 가진 당사자이기 때문이다. 태어난 지 100일 때 발작으로 장애 판정을 받은 그는 어린 시절 치료와 재활을 거쳐 현재는 일상생활이 가능하지만, 오른쪽 수족에 일부 불편함이 남아 있다.
2007년 경북대 법대 입학 후 로스쿨을 졸업하고 2016년 변호사가 된 정 변호사는 이후 한국장애인개발원에서 근무했고, 2021년 중증장애인 경력경쟁채용으로 법제처에 입직해 사회적 약자를 위한 법령 마련에 힘쓰고 있다.
정 변호사는 “대구대학교에서 박사 학위를 받는 것은 개인적 성취이자, 앞으로 법률가·공직자·학자로서 사회적 약자를 세심히 살피고 소명을 다할 기회가 될 것”이라고 소감을 밝혔다.

In 2018, she was selected as an Outstanding Attorney by the Korean Bar Association. Attorney Jeong's commitment to supporting vulnerable groups stems from her own experience with a Grade 3 brain injury. Diagnosed with a disability due to a seizure 100 days after birth, he received treatment and rehabilitation during his childhood and is now able to lead a normal life, though he still has some discomfort in his right arm and leg.

In 2021, he joined the Ministry of Government Legislation through a competitive recruitment process for individuals with severe disabilities, where he is dedicated to developing laws for the socially disadvantaged.
Attorney Jeong stated, "Receiving a doctorate from Daegu University is a personal accomplishment and will provide an opportunity for me to closely examine the socially disadvantaged and fulfill my calling as a lawyer, public official, and scholar."
