그는 지난 19일 국민의힘 장동혁 대표를 찾았다. 김 부위원장은“민주당이 지난 15일 통일교와 공천현금에 대한 쌍특검법 도입을 요구하며 5일 차 단식 투쟁을 하는 장동혁 대표를 그냥 보고만 있을 수없었다”며 국회 본관 로텐더홀에서 단식을 이어가던 장 대표를 방문, 진심을 담아 위문하고 결의에 동참했다.
그는 “국민의힘 당원으로서, 국민의 한 사람으로서 민주당이 저지르는 폭거에 강력하게 항의하는 대열에 최선봉에 설 계획”이라며 “ 어느 때보다 당의 단합이 중요한 시기인만큼 나 한사람의 힘이라도 보탤 것”이라고 말했다.
그는 오는 6월 실시하는 지방선거에 출마할 예정이다. 선거 출마는 8년만의 일이다. 일찍이 수성구청장에 도전한 바 있는 그는 아버지(김규택 전 수성구청장)에 이어 수성구를 명품 도시로 만들겠다는 당찬 포부를 밝혀왔다.
대구 경신고와 고려대 경영학과, 경북대학교 행정학박사 출신인 그는 2006년 대구시의회원을 시작으로, 대구광역시 교통연수원장, 대구시장 비서실장을 거친 뒤 동국대학교 산학협력교수와 대구한의대학교 특임교수의 길을 걸어왔다.

A graduate of Daegu Gyeongshin High School, Korea University's Department of Business Administration, and Kyungpook National University's Doctorate in Public Administration, he began his career as a member of the Daegu City Council in 2006. He then served as Director of the Daegu Metropolitan City Transportation Training Institute and Chief of Staff to the Mayor of Daegu before becoming a professor of industry-academic cooperation at Dongguk University and a special lecturer at Daegu University of Oriental Medicine.
