【브레이크뉴스 경산】이성현 기자=경산시가 세계 최대 규모의 스타트업 경진대회 ‘스타트업 월드컵(Startup World Cup)’ 한국대표 선발전을 유치하며 지역 혁신기업의 글로벌 진출 기반을 본격 확대한다.

경산시는 3일 오후 2시 시청 소회의실에서 Pegasus Tech Ventures와 경산이노베이션아카데미와 함께 스타트업 월드컵 한국대표 선발전 개최 및 지역 혁신 스타트업의 글로벌 진출 지원을 위한 상호협력 업무협약(MOU)을 체결했다고 밝혔다.

이번 협약은 실리콘밸리 기반 글로벌 네트워크와 지역 창업 생태계를 연결하고, 스타트업 월드컵 한국대표 선발전을 경산에서 성공적으로 추진하기 위해 마련됐다.

협약에 따라 세 기관은 ▲스타트업 월드컵 기획·홍보·실행 전반에 대한 협력 ▲지역 유망 스타트업 공동 발굴 및 지원 ▲페가수스의 글로벌 기업 파트너·투자자 네트워크 연계 기회 제공 등을 중심으로 긴밀한 협력 체계를 구축하기로 했다.

한국대표 선발전은 오는 7월 15일 영남대학교 천마아트센터에서 개최될 예정이다. 사전심사를 통과한 20개 스타트업 가운데 최종 선발된 기업은 미국 샌프란시스코에서 열리는 그랜드 파이널 무대에 올라 100만 달러의 투자 상금을 놓고 세계 각국 기업과 경쟁하게 된다.

Pegasus Tech Ventures는 2011년 벤처캐피탈리스트 Anis Uzzaman이 설립한 실리콘밸리 기반 글로벌 VC로, 스타트업 투자와 대기업-스타트업 협력 지원을 비롯해 ‘스타트업 월드컵’ 운영을 통해 글로벌 창업 생태계 확장에 힘쓰고 있다.

조현일 경산시장은 “이번 협약은 경산의 기업과 창업 생태계가 세계로 도약하는 중요한 전환점”이라며 “혁신기업이 성장하고 청년이 도전할 수 있는 환경을 조성해 경산이 글로벌 창업 중심도시로 자리매김할 수 있도록 적극 지원하겠다”고 밝혔다.

경산시는 이번 협약을 계기로 실리콘밸리 기반 글로벌 파트너사와의 협력 네트워크를 강화하고, 지역 창업 인프라 홍보 확대와 혁신기업 유치 기반을 넓혀 ‘혁신 창업도시’로의 도약에 속도를 낼 방침이다.

Gyeongsan City Hosts Startup World Cup Korea Team Selection, Establishing a Bridgehead for Global Expansion

Gyeongsan City will host the Startup World Cup Korea Team Selection, the world's largest startup competition, significantly expanding the foundation for local innovative companies to expand globally.

On the afternoon of the 3rd, at 2:00 PM in the small conference room of City Hall, Gyeongsan City announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Pegasus Tech Ventures and Gyeongsan Innovation Academy to host the Startup World Cup Korea Team Selection and support the global expansion of local innovative startups.

This agreement aims to connect the Silicon Valley-based global network with the local startup ecosystem and ensure the successful launch of the Startup World Cup Korea Team Selection in Gyeongsan.

Under the agreement, the three organizations agreed to establish a close cooperative system focused on: 1) cooperating on all aspects of Startup World Cup planning, promotion, and execution; 2) jointly discovering and supporting promising local startups; and 3) providing opportunities to connect with Pegasus's global network of corporate partners and investors.

The Korean representative selection competition is scheduled to be held at Yeungnam University's Cheonma Art Center on July 15th. Among the 20 startups that passed the preliminary screening, the finalists will advance to the grand finale in San Francisco, USA, where they will compete against companies from around the world for a $1 million investment prize.

Pegasus Tech Ventures, a Silicon Valley-based global VC firm founded in 2011 by venture capitalist Anis Uzzaman, is committed to expanding the global startup ecosystem through startup investments, support for collaboration between large corporations and startups, and the "Startup World Cup."

Gyeongsan Mayor Cho Hyun-il stated, "This agreement marks a significant turning point for Gyeongsan's corporate and startup ecosystem to leap forward into the global arena. Gyeongsan City plans to use this agreement as an opportunity to strengthen its cooperative network with Silicon Valley-based global partners, expand the promotion of local startup infrastructure, and broaden the base for attracting innovative companies, thereby accelerating its leap forward as an "innovative startup city."
