권 시장은 지난 19일 대구평생학습진흥원(원장 장원용. 이하 진흥원) 회의실에서 열린 2021년 대구평생학습진흥원의 업무보고 자리에서 “코로나19시대에 아무리 멋진 강의와 강사가 있어도 사람이 모이는 데는 한계가 있다”면서 “온라인 플랫폼에 다양한 학습 콘텐츠를 장착해 시민에게 제공함으로써 온라인 학습지원 플랫폼을 대구평생학습의 새로운 브랜드로 만들어야 한다”고 강조했다고 진흥원은 밝혔다. 

권 시장은 특히 “대구평생학습진흥원이 앞으로 일선 구·군청, 대학, 민간단체 등 각 기관·단체가 수행하는 평생학습 프로그램을 네트워크로 묶어내는 콘트롤 타워 역할을 해야 한다.”는 점을 재차 강조하면서 “이를 위해 대구에 산재한 평생학습기관의 현황파악과 프로그램 유형, 참여하는 시민 등 기본적인 실태조사를 실시해 이를 바탕으로 진흥원의 기본계획 및 중장기 발전방안을 수립해야 한다.”고 지적했다. 

이와 함께 권 시장은 “중장년층이나 소외계층이 급변하는 시대 트렌드에 뒤처지지 않게 하기 위해서 디지털 문해교육, 4차산업에 적응할 수 있는 체험학습 등으로 스마트학습도시의 저변을 확대해야 할 필요가 있다”고 덧붙였다.
