포항시에 따르면 이날 이강덕 시장은 영일만대교 건설사업이 새정부의 경북 지역 핵심사업으로 선정돼 사업 실현에 탄력을 받은 만큼, 포항~영덕간 고속도로 총사업비 변경 및 영일만 횡단사업의 조속한 추진을 위한 설계비 반영 등 국비 지원을 강력히 건의했다.

또한, 새정부 국정과제(세계 최고의 네트워크 구축 및 디지털 혁신 가속화)와 관련해 수도권과 지방의 디지털 격차 해소 및 국토균형발전 측면에서 지역 디지털 혁신 거점에 포항 지정을 요청하고 국비 지원도 함께 건의했다.
