불로고분마을은 산림청이 추진하는 2023년 목재친화도시 조성사업 공모에 최종 선정돼 국비 25억을 포함 총 50억의 예산을 확보했다.

이번에 추진되는 사업은 ‘목향만리(木香萬里) 불로고분마을’으로 숲과 숨쉬며 나무와 공존하는 걷고 싶은 마을 만들기라는 비전아래 목재특화거리조성, 건축물내 목재이용, 목공체험센터조성, 목재교육프로그램 등 4가지 정책방향에 맞춰 9개 사업을 실시한다.

목재특화거리 조성은 주민 보행안전 확보와 가로경관개선을 위한 사업으로 ‘팔공로, 고분로 목재특화거리 조성’과 ‘불로천로, 고분가는길에 보행친화 Wood Road 조성’ 등 총 2개의 사업이 진행된다.

먼저 대구국제공항에서 팔공산으로 가는 길목에 위치한 팔공로와 불로고분군으로 진입하는 고분로에 목재데크, 목재가로등, 버스쉘터 등을 설치해 대구 동구 대표 ‘목재특화거리’로 조성한다.

또 불로천로의 경우 제방상부공간에 인도를 확보하여 목재데크, 목재벤치를 설치하고, 불로고분군 주변을 잇는 고분 가는 길에 목재데크와 파고라를 설치해 걷고 싶은 거리 명소로 육성한다.

목재친화도시답게 마을 발전 원동력 확보 및 마을 활력 증진을 위해 조성되는 시설에 목재를 활용한다. 세부적으로 ‘창업인큐베이팅시설 불로전수소 조성’과 ‘목조주택수리거점 불봉이네수리소 조성’ 등 2개 사업이 진행된다.

불로전수소는 지역대표기업인 대구탁주합동과 협업해 막걸리 제조기술을 전수받은 창업자들을 위한 인큐베이팅 시설로 ‘불로전수소1’은 젊은 고객들의 취향에 맞는 모던한 감각의 신축 목조건축물로 조성하고, ‘불로전수소2’는 기존 건물을 리모델링을 통해 목질화할 계획이다.

불봉이네수리소는 불로동일대 노후목조주택 수리하는 거점공간이다. 앞으로 집수리 관련 정비와 교육 등을 진행하게 되는데 이곳을 목조건축물로 조성해 목재에 대한 이해를 높일 계획이다.

목공체험센터 조성은 목재를 통한 마을 명소화 및 주민들의 삶의 질 개선이 목표이며, ‘목재문화 커뮤니티센터 불로애(愛) 조성’ ‘목재활용 창업플랫폼 히트 조성’ ‘어린이목재문화 놀이터 나무야 놀자 조성’ 3개 사업이 있다.

 향후 목재문화의 확산거점으로 활용하게 될 ‘불로愛’는 지상3층으로, 시민들이 쉽고 친근하게 배울 수 있는 목재체험 교육실, 목공예품 제작&판매장, 공유카페 등이 들어선다. 

목재교육프로그램의 주요공간이자 마을창업플랫폼 ‘히트’는 청년들의 창업교육을 전담하게 될 교육기관이자 창업자 자녀에 대한 돌봄시설 등을 포함한 창업 플랫폼으로 지상4층 건물 내외부를 목질화하여 조성한다.

나무야놀자는 동구 대표 관광지인 불로동고분군과 인접한 곳에 어린이 대상 친환경 목재체험놀이터로 트리하우스 등 10종이상의 천연목재 놀이시설을 조성할 계획이다.

목재가치에 대한 인식제고 및 목재문화 담론을 형성하기 위한 다양한 교육프로그램을 운영한다. 세부적으로 ‘목관악기제작교실 나무소리’, ‘불로목조건축교실’, ‘목공예DIY교실 뚝딱’ 등이며 시설조성 시기에 맞춰 오는 2025년부터 운영될 예정이다. 

 목관악기제작교실 ‘나무소리’는 유네스코 음악창의도시 대구에 걸맞게 다양한 목관악기 전문제작과정을 수료하고 창작목관악기를 생산하는 등 목재를 활용한 예술활동을 연계할 방침이다.

 또 불로목조건축교실은 명실상부 목재친화도시로서 목조건축교육의 중심지로 발돋움하기 위해 목재재료의 이해, 목조주택 기본/실무교육, 현장실습과정 등 목조건축의 전문교육프로그램을 운영하게 된다. 

목공예DIY교실 ‘뚝딱’은 누구나 쉽게 제작이 가능한 DIY제품을 중심으로 목공예교실을 운영해 목재에 대한 관심을 유도할 계획이며 사업추진을 위한 협력체계마련과 전문인력 확보 및 활용을 위해 ‘목향만리추진단’을 운영해 속도감 있는 사업추진과 사업성을 극대화 할 방침이다.

윤석준 동구청장은“불로동의 오랜 역사의 가치는 존중하고, 동시에 지역 맞춤 전략을 통해 주민 삶이 보다 나아질 수 있도록 노력하겠다”고 밝혔다.
