이번 협약은 신천을 찾는 시민들에게 시원한 물소리를 들으며 그늘이 있는 걷고 쉬기 좋은 녹음길을 조성해 쾌적한 수변공간을 제공하고자 마련됐다.

7개 공공기관은 앞으로 주요 개발사업지 내 수형이 뛰어나고 조경 가치가 있는 지장수목을 신천에 옮겨심는 사업에 적극 동참하고 협력하기로 했다.

공공기관은 개발사업에 따른 지장수목 정보를 대구시에 우선 공유하고, 향후 ‘수목(SOC자원)공유 플랫폼’이 구축되면 이를 개발사업장 지장수목 재활용 활성화와 수목자원 보존을 위해 플랫폼 활용에 적극 동참하기로 상호 협약했다.

또 다가오는 식목일에는 ‘푸른 신천숲 조성사업’의 시작과 공공기관 상호 공동협력 MOU 체결을 기념하기 위해 기념목을 신천 둔치에 식재하는 행사를 준비 중이며, 기념목은 현재 도시개발공사에서 시행중인 ‘대구형 에너지산업 클러스터 조성사업(현풍읍)’에서 제거대상 수목(느티나무)을 활용할 예정이다.

대구시는 기념목 식수를 시작으로 2025년까지 테마별  걷고 싶은 하천변 숲길,  도심 속 머물고 싶은 힐링공간 미니정원,  시민이 만들고 가꾸는 쌈지숲 등 다양한 테마로 ‘푸른 신천숲’을 조성한다.

시민들에게는 시원한 물소리를 들으며 걷고 싶은 녹음길을, 동·식물에는 서식처(Biotope)를 제공해 자연과 공존하는 도시 생태환경 조성과 도심의 미세먼지 저감 및 열섬현상 완화는 물론 시민이 일상에서 힐링할 수 있는 수변공간으로 신천을 재탄생 시킬 계획이다.

이종화 대구시 경제부시장은 “공동협약으로 불필요한 수목을 제거하지 않고 필요한 곳에 사용할 수 있게 하여 소중한 자원을 보호하고, 공공기관 간 유기적인 협조를 통해 최대한 무상으로 나무를 심어 예산절감에도 기여를 하는 등 본 협약이 일석다조의 효과를 가져다줄 것으로 기대된다”고 밝혔다.
