【브레이크뉴스 경북】이성현 기자=경상북도는 11일부터 14일까지 경북 동해안 유네스코 세계지질공원 지정을 위한 유네스코 현장실사가 진행된다고 밝혔다.

이번 현장실사는 유네스코 세계지질공원(2,693.69㎢, 포항시, 경주시, 영덕군, 울진군 일원) 지정 필수요건 충족 여부를 확인하기 위한 중요한 과정으로, 지질 유산과 보전, 관리구조, 교육활동, 지질관광, 지역 협력 등에 대한 부분을 3박 4일간 중점 점검한다.

현장실사는 11일 울진 경북 동해안 지질공원센터에서 울진군수와 도, 시군 관계자 면담과 관리 현황 보고를 시작으로 성류굴,민물고기 전시관, 왕피천공원, 케이블카, 평해사구습지 등을 방문한다.

12일에는 영덕 신재생에너지 전시관, 영덕 해맞이공원, 포항제철초등학교, 봉좌마을, 여남동 화석산지를 방문해 지질학적 중요성과 탐방 기반 시설을 점검한다.

이어서 13일에는 포항 호미반도둘레길, 경주 양남주상절리, 골굴암, 불국사를 방문할 계획이다.

마지막 날인 14일에는 질의응답, 추가 자료 제출, 결과 강평 등을 위한 최종 보고회를 개최한 뒤 공식 일정이 모두 마무리된다.

경북 동해안 유네스코 세계지질공원 지정 심사 결과는 이번 현장실사 후, 올 9월 유네스코 세계지질공원 아시아·태평양 총회(베트남 까오방)에서 개최되는 세계지질공원이사회 심의로 예비 결과가 결정되고, 이후 2025년 프랑스 파리에서 열리는 유네스코 봄 정기총회에서 최종 지정 결과가발표된다.
