영천시에 따르면 2026년을 목표로 추진 중인 대구도시철도 1호선 영천(금호) 연장사업 설계비 18억 원(총사업비 2,341억 원)을 비롯해 ▲국도4호선 금호~하양 단구간 확장공사 40억 원 ▲대창일반산업단지 진입도로 건설 9억 원 ▲투자선도지구 미래형 첨단복합도시 진입도로 개설공사 41억 원 등 철도·도로 분야 주요 사업 예산이 반영됐다. 이를 통해 지역 교통 여건 개선과 국가 균형발전의 기반이 한층 강화될 것으로 전망된다.

농업 분야에서는 마늘·양파 주산지인 신녕·화산·청통면 일대의 용수 수급 불균형 해소와 안정적인 영농 기반 구축을 위해 영천영화지구 다목적 농촌용수 개발사업 설계비 3억 원(총사업비 396억 원)을 신규 확보했다.

이와 함께 ▲노후 상수도 정비 48억 원 ▲영천댐 상류 등 농어촌마을 하수도 정비사업 196억 원이 반영돼 안정적인 수돗물 공급과 수질 개선이 기대된다. 또 ▲재해위험지역 정비사업 150억 원 ▲풍수해 생활권 종합정비사업 64억 원 등 재해 예방 관련 예산도 추가 확보돼 주민 생활 안전성과 지역경제 안정성 강화에 기여할 것으로 보인다.

영천시는 그동안 지역경제 활성화와 미래 성장동력 창출을 목표로 부서별 대응체계를 구축하고, 경북도와 중앙부처, 국회를 대상으로 주요 사업의 필요성과 시급성을 지속적으로 설명해 왔다. 특히 지난 11월에는 국회를 방문해 한병도 예산결산특별위원장을 비롯한 여야 국회의원들을 만나 대구도시철도 1호선 영천 연장사업 등 핵심 사업의 국비 지원 필요성을 강조하며 전방위적인 활동을 펼쳤다.

아울러 영천시는 16일 행정안전부가 실시한 ‘2025년(2024 회계연도) 지방재정분석’에서 종합 최우수 지자체로 선정되는 성과도 거뒀다. 이에 따라 행정안전부장관 기관 표창과 함께 특별교부세 1억 원의 재정 인센티브를 확보했다.

지방재정분석은 전국 243개 지방자치단체를 대상으로 재정건전성·재정효율성·재정계획성 등 3개 분야 14개 지표를 종합 평가하는 제도다. 영천시는 인구와 재정 여건이 유사한 19개 지자체(시-Ⅳ 유형) 가운데 종합등급 ‘가’ 등급을 받아 최우수 지자체로 선정됐다. 특히 경상수지비율과 통합유동부채비율, 공기업부채비율 등 재정건전성 지표에서 전반적으로 높은 평가를 받았으며, 재정효율성 분야에서도 지방세 수입증감률 2.82%, 체납액 증감률 –9.97%를 기록해 전국 평균을 크게 웃돌았다.
