이번 평가는 경상북도 내 22개 시·군을 대상으로 하천 점·사용료 징수 실적, 지방하천사업 추진 실적, 지방하천사업 안전관리 등 하천 관련 주요 업무 전반의 추진 성과를 종합적으로 점검하기 위해 실시됐다.

영천시는 지역 내 국가하천 1개소(15.80km)와 지방하천 24개소(253.35km)를 대상으로 하천정비사업을 비롯해 퇴적토 및 유수 지장목 제거, 수문 및 제방에 대한 정밀안전점검 등을 체계적으로 추진하며 하천 유지관리와 재해 예방에 힘써 온 점에서 높은 평가를 받았다.

특히 고현천 화남지구 하천재해예방사업을 통해 집중호우 시 농경지와 가옥 침수가 반복되던 미개수 구간을 개선·정비한 성과가 우수 사례로 인정됐다. 해당 사업을 통해 하천 정비 6.6km를 비롯해 교량 4개소, 보·낙차공 4개소 등 주요 시설이 정비됐으며, 계획빈도 홍수량에 안전한 치수 안전도를 확보한 점이 높은 가산점으로 이어졌다.

영천시 관계자는 “이번 수상은 시민 안전을 최우선으로 하여 하천사업을 체계적으로 추진해 온 노력의 결실”이라며 “앞으로도 지속적인 하천 관리와 정비를 통해 시민의 생명과 재산을 보호하는 안전한 하천 환경 조성에 최선을 다하겠다”고 말했다.
