【브레이크뉴스 대구】진예솔 기자=대한민국교육감협의회가 2026년을 앞두고 지방교육자치 강화, 교육환경 개선, 인간 중심의 디지털 전환을 올해 주요 과제로 선정했다.

협의회는 지난해 11월 경남 통영에서 열린 총회에서 ‘대한민국교육감협의회’로 명칭을 변경하기로 결정했으며, 이번 신년사 발표를 통해 향후 교육정책의 큰 방향을 공식화했다.

대한민국교육감협의회(회장 강은희 대구시교육감)는 2026년 신년사에서 “교육의 기본은 더 단단하게, 미래를 향한 혁신은 더 과감하게”라는 메시지를 전달했다. 협의회는 지방교육자치 실현과 따뜻하고 안전한 교육환경 조성, 인간다움을 지키는 디지털 교육 전환을 3대 중점 과제로 내세웠다.

지방교육자치와 관련해 협의회는 “현장의 목소리를 폭넓게 듣고 현실성 있는 대안을 마련해 신뢰를 회복하겠다”고 강조했다. 중앙정부 중심의 교육정책에서 벗어나 시도교육청과 지역사회가 주도하는 교육 행정을 강화하겠다는 입장이다.

교육환경 개선 부문에서는 학생의 질문과 탐구를 중심으로 한 수업 문화 정착과 교사의 근무 여건 개선이 주요 방침으로 제시됐다. 특히 단순한 안전 대책을 넘어 학교 현장에서의 관계와 돌봄까지 아우르겠다는 입장이다.

디지털 전환과 관련해서는 인공지능 시대에 맞는 교육 혁신을 추진하되, 인간다움과 공동체 가치를 중심에 두는 정책 방향을 밝혔다. 기술 도입 속도에만 집중하지 않고 교육의 본질도 함께 고민해 나가겠다는 계획이다.

이와 함께 협의회는 기존 ‘전국시도교육감협의회’에서 ‘대한민국교육감협의회’로 명칭을 변경한다. 이번 명칭 변경은 지난해 11월 20일 열린 제105회 총회에서 의결됐으며, 2026년부터 적용될 예정이다. 

협의회는 “명칭의 일관성을 높이고 대외적 위상을 강화하는 한편, 지방교육자치의 역할과 활동 범위를 분명히 하기 위한 조치”라고 설명했다.

한편 이번 명칭 변경과 3대 과제 발표는 교육감 협의체가 정책 논의의 중심으로서 목소리를 높이겠다는 움직임으로 해석된다. 다만, 명칭 변경에 따른 행정 절차와 비용, 각 과제의 구체적인 실행 계획과 예산 확보 여부 등은 앞으로 세부 점검이 필요하다는 지적도 나오고 있다.
