【브레이크뉴스 경북 구미】이성현 기자= 국민의힘 구자근 의원(경북구미갑)은 산자부로부터 제출받은 벽지 제품 위해성 평가 보고서에 따르면 시중 판매되는 벽지 제품 30개에 대한 위해성 검사 결과 총 4개 제품에서 중금속이 검출되었고, 방염벽지와 종이장판지에서는 발암물질로 알려진 폼알데하이드가 연구자료에서 제시한 안전성 기준치의 12배와 173배가 초과한 것으로 나타났다고 7일 밝혔다.

또한 벽지의 경우 설치된 이후 풍화와 마모를 통해 위해물질이 실내에 확산될 위험성이 높지만 납과 휘발성유기화합물에 대한 유해물질에 대한 기준치가 마련되어 있지 않아 이에 대한 대책이 시급한 것으로 밝혀졌다.

연구에서는 네이버 쇼핑 기준 가장 판매량이 많은 30개 벽지 제품에 대해 위해성 평가를 한 결과 총 4개(인테리어 필름 2개, 폼블럭 1개, 종이장판지 1개) 제품에서 중급속이 검출됐다.

분석 결과 종이장판지에서 가장 높은 총 납의 농도 266.0 ㎎/㎏가 확인되었으며, 인테리어필름, 폼블럭의 3개 제품에서는 모두 총 납의 농도가 90 ㎎/㎏ 이하로 검출되었다. 연구자료에 따르면 벽지 및 종이장판지는 우리나라 생활용품안전기준 대상이지만 납과 카드뮴에 대한 중금속 함량기준이 존재하지 않는다.

또한 휘발성유기화합물질이 활용될 것으로 판단되는 총 10개 벽지 제품에서 총휘발성유기화합물(TVOC)을 확인한 결과 발암물질로 알려진 폼알데하이드는 방염벽지(기타벽지)와 종이장판지에서 각각 0.0023과 0.0208 ㎎/m2·h로 확인됐다.

폼알에하이드의 경우 유해성 기준치가 정해져 있지 않으나 연구에서는 0.00012 mg/m2·h을 적정한 기준치로 제시했다. 이를 근거로 살펴보면 방염벽지는 연구에서 제시한 기준치의 12배, 종이장판지에서는 기준치의 173배 초과한 것으로 볼 수 있다.

뿐만 아니라 유럽 화학물질관리청에서 지정한 생식독성물질인 톨루엔(Toluene)이 총 10개 제품 중 5개 제품(폼블럭 : 2개 제품, 점착시트 : 3개 제품)에서 검출(0.0069 ~ 0.0522 ㎎/m2·h)되었으며, 자일렌(Xylene)은 1개 제품에서 0.0071 ㎎/m2·h의 방출량이 검출됐다.

10개 제품에 대한 벽지 내 총휘발성유기화합물 검출량 분석 결과 법적 강제기준은 모두 만족하는 것으로 나타났지만 인테리어 필름에서 가장 많은 10개 물질이 확인되었으며, 기타벽지, 뮤럴벽지에서 가장 적은 4개 물질이 확인됐다.

또한 총 10개 대상 제품 중 친환경건축자재마크(Healthy Building Material; HB) 0.4 ㎎/m2·h를 초과하는 제품은 3개, 국가공인 친환경표지인 환경마크 인증기준을 초과하는 제품은 5개로 확인됐다.

구자근 의원은 “벽지의 경우 우리 생활과 밀접한 만큼 납과 카드뮴을 비롯해 폼알데하이드 등 휘발성 유기화합물의 위해성 기준 마련이 시급하다”며 “시중에 유통되는 벽지 제품에 대한 안전성 전수조사가 필요하다”고 지적했다.
