지난 24일 영주시와 재단법인 영주세계풍기인삼엑스포(영주시장‧재단 이사장 장욱현)는코로나바이러스 감염증-19의 지속에 따라 ‘2021영주세계풍기인삼엑스포’를 1년연기한다고 밝혔다.

‘2021영주세계풍기인삼엑스포’는 오는 9월 17일부터 10월 10일까지 총 24일간 풍기읍 및 봉현면 일대에서 개최돼 2,500억 원의 생산유발 효과와 1,000억 원의 부가가치 유발 효과, 2,800여 명의 고용효과를 창출해 지역경제 및 국내 경제 전반에 걸친 직·간접적 효과를 나타낼 전망이었다.

시와 엑스포 재단은 지난 2017년부터 4년간 행사를 준비해 오며 매년열리던 풍기인삼축제를 넘어 세계적인 산업엑스포로의 도약을 위해 노력해 왔으나 ‘코로나19’의 팬데믹 상황이 지속됨에 따라 관광객의 생명과 안전이 우선돼야 한다고 판단해 이같이 결정했다.

또한 전문가 자문, 시의회 의견수렴, 정부의 방역지침을 종합적으로검토해 재단법인 영주세계풍기인삼엑스포이사회 의결을 거쳐 1년 연기해2022년 개최키로 죄종 결정했다.

장욱현 영주시장은 “이번 엑스포 개최 연기를 전화위복의 계기로 삼아풍기인삼의 새로운 가능성을 발견하는 차별화된 엑스포가 될 수 있도록준비에 만전을 기하겠다.”며, “많은 관심과 성원을 보내주신 국민‧시민여러분께 깊은 감사를 드리며 더 큰 기대와 희망으로 1년 뒤 뵙겠다.”고 말했다
