【브레이크뉴스 대구 】이성현 기자=내년도 4.10 총선에 출마하는 예비후보들 가운데 달서병 지역구 출마를 선언한 권영진 전 대구시장이 가장 먼저 자신의 선거사무실 개소식을 전했다. 

권 영진 예비후보는 16일 달서구 달구벌대로 1734, 3층에 마련한 자신의 사무시실을 처음으로 대구시민에 공개했다. 이날 사무실을 공개한 권 예비후보는 ‘대구 정치혁신’과 ‘달서구 발전’을 위한 두 가지 큰 아젠다를 제시하면서 힘찬 출발을 알렸다.

오후 2시부터 진행된 사무실 개소식에는 김범일, 조해녕 前 대구시장을 비롯해  김상훈, 김승수 국회의원이 참석했다. 또, 최병일 재대구 경북도민회 회장 등 2천여 명의 지역주민과 내빈들이 참석해 성황을 이뤘고, 너무 많은 인파가 몰린탓에 이 일대 교통이 혼잡하고 일부는 사무실 입장도 하지 못하고 발길을 돌려야 했다. 권 예비후보는 발걸음을 돌리신 분들에 감사하다면서도 송구하다고 말했다.

권영진 예비후보는 인사말에서 “지방을 살리는 정치를 하겠다, 또, 보수정치 혁신을 통해 TK 정치의 자존심을 복원하고, 정치를 통해서 못다한 대구혁신을 완수하겠다”고 강조하고 “대구의 새로운 중심인 달서병에 ‘신청사의 조기 완성,’과 두류관광특구 조성,’그리고‘서대구 순환 모노레일’건설을 통해 달서병 지역을 대구의 새로운 중심으로 만들겠다.”고 밝혔다.

윤재옥 국민의 힘 당 대표 권한대행은 축하 영상을 통해 “시장 시절 달서구 발전에 각별히 관심을 가지고 많은 지원을 해주신 데 대해 감사드린다”면서 “ 두 번의 시장 시절 이루어놓은 업적만큼, 달서구의 새로운 모습을 만들어 낼 수 있을 것이라는 기대가 크다”라고 말했다.

국민의힘의 새 비대위원장에 거론되는 권영세 의원(서울 용산구)도 축하 영상으로 “대구시장으로 재임하는 동안 침체된 대구의 변화와 혁신을 이끌었고, 서대구역을 만들어내는 등 큰 족적을 남긴 분”이라며“보다 큰일을 해주실 분이라 기대가 크다”고 축하했다. 

이날 특히 조해녕, 김범일 전직 대구시장이 오랜만에 나란히 얼굴을 보여 관심을 모았다. 두 전직 시장은 권 예비후보가 대구시장에 재직할 때도 가끔 얼굴을 보이며 권 예비후보의 시정에 힘을 보탰다.

조해녕 전 대구시장은 “권영진 전 시장은 맑고 깨끗하고 거짓을 모른다. 나라를 구하고 정치를 바르게 하고자 하는 용기에 경의를 표하며 앞날에 축복을 빈다”라고 축하했다. 

김범일 전 대구시장도 “원래 전임자를 밟고 일어서는 게 정치인데, 후임 시장인 권 시장은 전혀 그렇지 않았다. 통이 크고 바른 사람이기 때문에, 오늘 이렇게 왔다”라고 응원했다.

이날 행사에서는 권영진의 달서구 3대 공약을 잘 수행해달라는 달서구민의 염원을 전달하는 퍼포먼스도 진행됐다. 

한편, 권영진 예비후보는 1962년 안동에서 태어나, 대구 청구고를 졸업하고, 고려대학교에서 정치외교학을 전공했다. 1990년 노태우 정부 시절에는 통일원 통일정책보좌관으로 국정에 참여하기 시작했으며, 1999년 여의도연구원 연구위원을 시작으로 본격적인 정치 행보에 나선다.

이어 2003년 한나라당 미래 청년연대인 ‘미래연대’공동 대표를 맡고 나서 1차례의 고배 끝에 진보 정당의 아지트라고 불리던 서울 노원을에서 18대 국회의원에 당선됐다. 2013년 여의도연구원 부원장을 역임한 뒤 2014년 홀홀 단신 대구에 내려와 대구시장에 도전, 이후 재선에 성공하면서 대구의 시민의식 및 산업 구조 혁신을 위해 정열을 쏟았다.
