【브레이크뉴스 대구】진예솔 기자=대구 동부경찰서가 팔공산 초례봉 인근에서 길을 잃고 탈진한 치매 노인을 구조해 가족에게 인계했다고 8일 밝혔다. 이번 구조는 스마트태그가 실종자 조기 발견에 결정적인 역할을 하며 주목을 받았다.

경찰에 따르면, 지난 4일 가족으로부터 “아버지가 신발에 스마트태그를 부착 중이며 마지막 위치가 초례봉 입구로 확인된다”는 실종 신고가 접수됐다. 경찰은 즉시 주변 CCTV를 분석해 A씨(84)가 혼자 등산로로 들어서는 장면을 확인하고 수색을 시작했다.

실종·형사팀과 경찰기동대, 소방, 민간 드론 등 총 41명이 투입돼 초례봉 진입로 5개 구간을 집중 수색했다. 구조대는 실종자의 이름을 반복해 부르며 야간 수색을 벌였고, 오후 10시 15분경 해발 420m 지점 숲속에서 “네, 여기에요”라는 응답을 듣고 탈진한 상태의 A씨를 발견했다.

A씨는 탈수와 저체온증 증세를 보였으나 119구급대의 응급 치료를 받은 뒤 무사히 가족 품으로 돌아갔다.

경찰은 스마트태그 덕분에 수색 범위를 좁혀 신속한 구조가 가능했다고 밝혔다. A씨는 과거에도 실종된 이력이 있었고, 당시 경찰이 권장한 스마트태그를 가족이 인터넷으로 구매해 신발에 부착해 둔 것으로 전해졌다.

스마트태그는 기존 배회감지기에 비해 작고 휴대가 간편하며, 배터리 교체 없이 1년 정도 사용할 수 있다. 가격도 저렴해 치매 환자 실종 예방에 효과적이라는 평가다.

경찰 관계자는 “앞으로 예산을 확보해 스마트태그 무상 보급을 확대하고, 관련 기관과 협업해 실종 예방과 조기 발견 대응 체계를 강화하겠다”며 “도움이 필요한 이웃을 보면 적극적인 신고와 제보를 부탁드린다”고 말했다.

A police official said, “In the future, we will secure a budget to expand the free distribution of smart tags and collaborate with related organizations to strengthen the missing person prevention and early discovery response system,” adding, “Please actively report and tip off your neighbors who need help.”
