【브레이크뉴스 성주】이성현 기자=성주참외산업 대전환 혁신운동 추진위원회(위원장 배선호)는 3일 성주군청 세미나실에서 외국인 계절근로자 관련 현안 해결을 위해 지역 농업인 단체 대표들과 대책 회의를 열었다.

회의에서는 외국인 계절근로자 도입 규모가 매년 두 배씩 증가하고 있음에도 일부 농가에서 근로기준법 준수 미흡, 숙소 부족, 임금 체계 미비 등 문제가 발생하고 있다는 지적이 제기됐다. 이에 따라 추진위는 오는 12월 8일부터 읍·면 릴레이 캠페인을 시작으로 근로·주거 환경 개선과 농가 인식 제고 활동을 본격화하기로 결정했다.

추진위는 최근 숙소 위생 문제, 근로조건 미준수 사례 등이 지역 이미지와 생산 구조에 부정적 영향을 미치고 있는 만큼, 지역 농가의 자발적 개선 노력과 공동체적 실천이 필요하다고 강조했다.

이번 캠페인은 “외국인 계절근로자도 우리의 가족입니다”를 슬로건으로 12월 15일까지 6일간 진행된다. 캠페인 기간 동안 추진위는 읍·면 단위 순회 홍보, 숙소 실태 공유, 고용주 의무 안내, 실천 다짐서 작성 및 자가 체크리스트 배포 등을 실시하며, 외국인 계절근로자를 단순 노동력이 아닌 공동 경영의 파트너로 인식시키는 데 초점을 맞출 계획이다.

배선호 추진위원장은 “외국인 계절근로자는 성주 농업을 함께 지탱하는 동반자”라며 “존중과 배려의 변화를 농가가 먼저 실천해야 한다”고 강조했다. 이어 “이번 캠페인이 성주 전체 농가가 보다 안전하고 품격 있는 근로 환경을 조성하는 출발점이 되길 바란다”고 말했다.

이병환 성주군수도 현장을 찾아 캠페인 의지를 지지했다. 그는 “외국인 근로자는 성주 참외 산업의 필수 파트너”라며 “안전하고 존중받는 근로·주거 환경을 보장하는 것은 지역 농업의 품격”이라고 밝혔다. 이어 “캠페인을 계기로 농가 스스로 변화하고 상생문화를 확산해 나가길 기대한다”고 덧붙였다.

The Seongju Melon Industry Transformation Innovation Promotion Committee (Chairman Bae Seon-ho) held a meeting with representatives of local agricultural organizations on the 3rd in the seminar room of Seongju County Office to discuss pending issues related to foreign seasonal workers.

The meeting highlighted the fact that despite the annual doubling of the number of foreign seasonal workers, some farms are experiencing issues such as inadequate compliance with the Labor Standards Act, inadequate housing, and inadequate wage systems. Accordingly, the committee decided to launch a full-scale campaign to improve working and living conditions and raise awareness among farmers, starting December 8th, with a relay campaign in towns and counties.

Bae Seon-ho, the committee chair, emphasized, "Foreign seasonal workers are partners who support Seongju agriculture," and added, "Farmers must first implement changes in respect and consideration." He added, "I hope this campaign will serve as a starting point for creating a safer and more dignified working environment for all Seongju farms."

Lee Byeong-hwan, the Seongju County Governor, also visited the site and expressed his support for the campaign. He stated, "Foreign workers are essential partners in the Seongju melon industry. Ensuring a safe and respectful working and living environment is essential to the dignity of local agriculture." He added, “I hope that this campaign will be an opportunity for farmers to change themselves and spread a culture of coexistence.”
