특히 군은 지난 1월 27일 산불재난 국가위기경보 ‘경계’ 단계가 발령됨에 따라 산불 예방과 현장 대응 역량을 한층 강화하고 있다. 이에 따라 지난 1월 31일부터 직원 6분의 1 비상근무체계를 유지하고, 산불 취약지역을 중심으로 담당구역 책임관제를 본격 시행 중이다.

담당구역 책임관제는 산불 취약지역을 구역별로 지정해 책임관이 ▲산불 위험 요소 상시 점검 ▲불법 소각 행위 계도 ▲산림 인접 지역 순찰 ▲주민 대상 산불 예방 홍보 활동 등을 전담하는 제도다.

해당 제도는 통상 산불 발생 위험이 가장 높은 3~4월에 운영되지만, 올해는 장기간 건조특보가 이어지고 전국적으로 산불 발생이 잇따르면서 선제적 산불 방지를 위해 조기 시행됐다.

전상택 성주군 산림과장은 “산불은 예방과 초기 대응이 무엇보다 중요한 재난”이라며 “작은 불씨 하나가 대형 산불로 이어질 수 있는 만큼 군민들께서는 영농폐기물과 생활쓰레기 소각을 절대 삼가 주시길 바란다”고 당부했다.
