【브레이크뉴스 성주】이성현 기자=성주군은 11일 ‘농업인의 날’을 맞아 성주군농업기술센터 참외랑아이랑관 앞에서 ‘가래떡 나눔 행사’를 개최했다.

이번 행사는 생활개선성주군연합회(회장 김정화)가 주관했으며, 임원 19명이 준비한 가래떡 1,400팩(쌀 약 480kg 분량)이 관내 11개 초등학교 학생과 교직원 1,178명에게 전달됐다.

생활개선회 임원들은 이날 성주초등학교를 직접 방문해 학생들에게 ‘농업인의 날’ 제정 취지와 ‘가래떡 데이’의 의미를 설명하고, 함께 가래떡을 나누며 소통하는 시간을 가졌다.

김정화 회장은 “오늘 드리는 가래떡은 올 한 해 성주에서 정성껏 재배한 햅쌀로 만든 것이라 더욱 특별하다”며 “어린이들이 농업의 소중함을 알고 우리 쌀을 더 많이 사랑하길 바란다”고 전했다.

한편 ‘농업인의 날’은 농업인의 긍지와 자부심을 높이고 농민의 노고를 격려하기 위해 1996년 지정됐으며, 2006년부터는 쌀 소비 촉진을 위해 ‘가래떡 데이’로도 운영되고 있다. 이는 젊은 세대에게 쌀의 중요성을 알리고 우리 농산물 소비를 확대하기 위한 취지다.

성주군농업기술센터 김주섭 소장은 “이번 행사가 학생들과 군민 모두에게 농업의 가치와 우리 쌀의 우수성을 다시 한 번 알리는 계기가 되기를 바란다”고 말했다.

The event was hosted by the Seongju County Living Improvement Association (Chairman Kim Jeong-hwa). 19 executives prepared 1,400 packs of garaetteok (equivalent to approximately 480 kg of rice) and distributed them to 1,178 students and faculty from 11 elementary schools in the county.

Executives from the Living Improvement Association visited Seongju Elementary School to explain the purpose of "Farmers' Day" and the meaning of "Garaetteok Day." They then shared garaetteok and interacted with the students.

Chairman Kim Jeong-hwa said, "The garaetteok we're offering today is especially special because it's made with the new rice we've painstakingly cultivated in Seongju this year." He added, "I hope the children will understand the importance of agriculture and appreciate our rice even more."

Meanwhile, "Farmers' Day" was established in 1996 to boost pride and self-esteem among farmers and encourage their hard work. Since 2006, it has also been celebrated as "Garaetteok Day" to promote rice consumption. The purpose is to raise awareness of the importance of rice among younger generations and expand consumption of Korean agricultural products.

Kim Joo-seop, Director of the Seongju County Agricultural Technology Center, said, "I hope this event will serve as an opportunity for students and residents alike to once again recognize the value of agriculture and the excellence of our rice."
