【브레이크뉴스 성주】이성현 기자=성주군은 중소벤처기업부가 실시한 2025년(2024년 실적) 지역특구 운영성과 평가에서 성주참외산업특구가 ‘우수특구’로 선정되며 국무총리상을 수상했다고 6일 밝혔다.

이번 평가는 전국 175개 지역특구를 대상으로 △정량평가 △전문가 정성평가 △대국민평가 등 3단계 절차를 통해 진행됐으며, 이 가운데 최종 선정된 특구는 9곳에 불과했다. 대통령상 1곳, 국무총리상 2곳, 장관상 6곳이 수상의 영예를 안았다.

2006년 지정된 성주참외산업특구는 참외 생산에서 가공·유통·관광에 이르는 전 과정을 연계 지원하며 지역 농가소득 증대와 지역경제 활성화에 중요한 역할을 수행해왔다. 성주군은 특구 지정 이후 △참외 홍보관 운영 △재배기술 고도화 △유통시설 확충 △참외축제 활성화 △농가 역량 강화 등 5대 특화사업을 중심으로 체계적인 산업 육성에 나서 왔다.

또한 도로교통법·옥외광고물법·농지법·식품표시광고법 등 다양한 규제특례를 적극 활용해 축제 운영의 효율성 제고, 브랜드 경쟁력 강화, 저급과 자원화 등 여러 분야에서 성과를 거둔 것으로 평가됐다.

특히 2024년에는 참외 조수입 6,200억 원 달성, 스마트APC(스마트 농산물산지유통센터) 도입을 통한 유통 혁신, 비상품농산물 자원화센터 운영에 따른 탄소중립 실천, 경상북도 지정 우수축제 선정 등 굵직한 성과를 이어가며 이번 수상의 결정적 기반을 마련했다.

성주군 관계자는 “이번 국무총리상 수상은 성주참외의 명품 가치를 전국적으로 다시 확인한 의미 있는 성과”라며 “유기적으로 갖춰진 참외산업 추진체계를 기반으로 조수입 7천억 원 시대를 열어가겠다”고 말했다.

Notably, significant achievements have laid the foundation for this award, including achieving KRW 620 billion in melon imports by 2024, innovating distribution through the introduction of Smart Agricultural Product Distribution Centers (Smart APCs), achieving carbon neutrality through the operation of a non-commodity agricultural product recycling center, and being selected as an outstanding festival by Gyeongsangbuk-do.

A Seongju County official said, “Winning the Prime Minister’s Award this time is a meaningful achievement that has once again confirmed the luxury value of Seongju melons nationwide,” and added, “Based on the organically established melon industry promotion system, we will open an era of 700 billion won in annual revenue.”
