시에 따르면 김천시가 포도, 자두, 복숭아 등 다양한 품목의 과수가 생산되는 과일의 천국인 만큼 바쁜 농사철 농업인과 직접 대면할 수 있는 최적의 장소가 바로 농산물도매시장이기 때문이다.

이날 김충섭 시장은 도매시장에 출하된 자두와 복숭아 등을 살펴보며 생산농가와 경매참여자(중도매인)들을 만나 시장거래가격을 살피고 애로사항을 청취하는 등 현장과 직접 소통하는 시간을 가졌다.

김충섭 시장은 “오래 전부터 포도, 자두는 우리 김천이 전국 최대의 주산지로서 자존심을 지켜왔다. 특히 우리시 대표 소득 작목인 샤인머스켓은 전국적으로 재배면적이 급격히 증가하고 있는 만큼, 철저한 품질관리만이 치열한 유통경쟁시장에서 살아남을 수 있는 유일한 길임을 명심해야 한다.”고 강조했다.

한편, 김천시 관계자는 “김천시는 샤인머스켓 품질 고급화를 위해 2021년 도내 최초로 당도표시제 및 김천시장 품질인증제를 시행, 올해로 2년 연속 시행 중이며, 이를 위해 샤인머스켓 생산농가들의 의식전환 및 자발적 참여가 절실하다”고 밝히고 “농민들이 땀 흘려 생산한 농산물이 제 값을 받을 수 있도록 김천시에서도 다양한 유통시책을 마련하여 지원하는 등 농가소득 증대를 위해 최선을 다하겠다.”고 말했다.
