경북도에 따르면 먼저 5월 첫 주말에는 2023 영주 한국선비문화축제가 개막해 현대적으로 해석한 新풍류문화, 전통에서 현대를 아우르는 이번 축제는 ‘신바람난 선비의 화려한 외출’을 주제로 5일부터 7일까지 3일간 개최된다.

축제기간 내내 서천둔치, 소수서원, 선비촌, 선비세상에서 선비의 가치를 투영하는 다양한 콘텐츠가 마련된다.

축제 주 무대인 서천둔치에는 ‘선비의 산책’이라는 주제로 코로나19이후 컴백 신바람 퍼레이드를 연출한다.

또한 푸드트럭과 관내식당에서 운영하는 선비야시장, 지역예술인 공연과 오징어게임, 달고나, 오물조물 공방 등 어린이날 특별프로그램도 마련됐다.

아울러 선비촌에서는 마당극 덴동어미, 줄타기, 저잣거리 퍼포먼스, 현대 선비 코믹퍼포먼스 등 전통 연회가 열리고, 선비세상 일원에서는 어린이 장원급제, 발자국 런웨이 물감놀이 등 어린이를 위한 콘텐츠도 다채롭다.

이어 5월 11일부터 14일까지는 경북도지정 최우수 축제인 영양 산나물축제가 열린다.

일월산에서 산나물을 채취하고, 영양읍 일원에서는 먹거리촌, 판매장터가 운영되는 등 축제장을 방문하면 산나물 향연을 마음껏 누릴 수 있으며, 주말에는 청정 밤하늘 별과 함께 야간 트래킹 프로그램도 경험할 수 있다.

5월 18일에는 성주참외&생명문화축제가 개최된다. 올해는 성주참외와 세종대왕자태실을 결합해 600여년 태실의 생명역사를 조명하고, 전국 최대 참외 생산지로서 이미지 부각을 통해 글로벌축제로 발돋움 할 야심찬 꿈을 담아냈다.

‘성주, 생명을 품；다. 참외를 품；다!’라는 주제로 4일간 개최되는 축제는 성밖숲과 세종대왕자 태실 일원에서 개최된다.

18일 10시 세종대왕자 태실에서 생명선포식이 진행되고 주 무대인 성밖숲에서는 19시 개막식을 시작으로 플라잉 퍼포먼스, 참외가요제, MBC 태교음악회, 청소년 드림페스티벌 등 흥이 넘치는 가요행사가 축제기간을 채운다.

5월 마지막 주에는 ‘23~‘24 한국방문의 해 ’K-컬처 관광이벤트 100선‘이자, 국내 3대 불꽃축제로 꼽히는 포항 국제불빛축제가 개최된다.

27일 열리는 축제메인 프로그램 “국제 불꽃쇼”에는 한국을 비롯해 이탈리아, 필리핀, 스웨덴 총 4개국이 참가하는 국내 최대 불꽃쇼를 선보여 포스코의 야경과 어우러지는 화려한 장관이 펼쳐질 예정이다.

축제 첫날과 마지막 날에는 메타버스 플랫폼을 통해 시민들이 직접그린불꽃을 쏘아 올리는 시민디자인 불꽃쇼가 포항의 밤하늘을 장식한다.

또 서커스, 마술쇼, 퍼포먼스 등 불과 빛의 길거리 공연인 형산강 프린지 페스티벌, 퍼레이드에 공연을 가미한 포항 거리 퍼레이드도 재미를 더할 것으로 보인다.

특히, 지속 가능한 ESG축제의 방향성을 제시하는 노력도 엿볼 수 있다. 친환경 축제존, 친환경 산업소개 및 체험 프로그램을 반영한 ESG미니 박람회, 일회용품 사용 최소화, 재활용 분리배출 등 ESG축제를 경험할 수 있다.

이외에도 안동 차전장군 노국공주축제·예천활축제가 5월 4일 개막하며, 영천한약축제(19일), 영주소백산철쭉제(27일) 등 다채로운 축제가 경북 곳곳에서 5월을 채울 예정이다.

김상철 경북도 문화관광체육국장은 “5월 한 달 동안 경북 곳곳에는 경북의 자연, 전통과 문화, 그리고 농특산물을 주제로 한 풍성한 축제가 마련돼 있다”며 “경북으로 가족, 친구, 연인과 소중한 축제여행을 계획해 꼭 방문하시길 바란다”고 말했다.
