‘국민의힘은 이날 도태우 후보의 공천을 취소한 대구 중남구 지역에 김기웅 전 통일부 차관(63)을 전략공천했다. 지역 정가에서는 국민의힘 공천 소식이 전해지기 전 중남구 공천 방식에 대하여 여러 설들을 제기하며 어떤 결정을 내릴지 예의 주시하고 있었다. 일각에선 차점자인 임병헌 의원의 공천설과 재공모설, 그리고 시간상 전략공천이 이뤄질 것이란 예상들이 나돌았다. 전략공천을 예상못한 바는 아니지만, 이번에도 이 정도일 줄은 지역민 아무도 몰랐다는 반응이다.
