이 자리에는 5·18민주화운동 유공자들이 직접 참석해 “이미 오래전 북한군 침투설을 퍼트린 지만원은 5·18민주화운동을 폄훼하고 명예를 훼손해 대법원에서 징역 2년을 확정받았다”며 “도 예비후보의 역사 인식에 분노하지 않을 수 없다”고 입장을 밝혔다.

5·18민주화운동 부상자회, 5·18민주화운동공로자회 대구경북지회, 대구참여연대 등도 오는 14일 오전 기자회견을 개최할 예정이다. 이들은 “5·18민주화운동을 폄훼한 도 변호사가 대구시민을 대표하는 국회의원이 되어서는 안된다”고 전했다.
