하지만 현장에서는 후보를 보기 어렵다는 불만도 나왔다. 영천에서 만난 한 시민은 "대구에서 일부러 왔는데 경호 인력에 둘러싸여 후보 얼굴조차 볼 수 없었다"며 "과도하게 보호하는 모습이 오히려 후보 이미지를 깎아먹는다"고 했다.

칠곡군에서는 일반 시민의 접근을 제한하려는 경호 인력의 발언이 도마에 올랐다. 현장 관계자가 풀기자단 외 시민을 밀어내라는 식의 지시를 했다는 증언이 나왔다. 이재명 후보는 시민들과 가까이 소통하려는 모습을 보였지만, 주변 의전 분위기가 그 의도를 가로막았다는 지적이다.
