공직선거법에 따르면 선거 벽보나 현수막을 고의로 훼손할 경우 2년 이하 징역 또는 400만 원 이하 벌금형에 처해질 수 있다.

하지만 이번 사건처럼 특정 후보에 대한 증오 또는 조롱 의도가 명확해 보이는 사례는 단순한 장난 수준을 넘어 민주주의 질서를 위협하는 중대한 범죄로 평가된다.

더불어민주당 대구시당 관계자는 "현재 이런 신고가 몇건 접수된 상황"이라며 "이에 대해 정확히 파악해서 경찰에 고발할 예정"이라고 밝혔다.
