【브레이크뉴스 대구】이성현 기자=한국교육학술정보원(원장 정제영, 이하 케리스)은 국내 최대 학술연구정보 플랫폼인 학술연구정보서비스(이하 RISS, www.riss.kr)를  통해 국내외 학위·논문, 연구보고서 등 학술연구 정보 초록을 18개 국어로 실시간 번역해 제공하는 서비스를 시작했다고 밝혔다.

학술연구정보서비스(RISS)는 전국 대학과 공공·연구기관이 생산한 국내 학술 성과뿐만 아니라 해외 우수 학술자료까지 폭넓게 검색·이용할 수 있는 국가 대표 학술정보 공유·유통 플랫폼이다.

이번에 개통한 다국어 초록 번역 서비스는 영어, 일본어, 중국어, 베트남어, 아랍어 등 18개 언어로 약 1,183만 건의 논문 초록을 실시간 번역해 제공한다. 이용자는 별도의 로그인 없이 학술연구정보서비스(RISS)화면에서 즉시 번역 결과를 확인할 수 있다.

특히 이 서비스는 국내 대학에서 연구 중인 외국인 유학생과 연구자들의 논문 탐색과 이해를 지원하는 데 초점을 맞췄다. 한국어에 익숙하지 않은 연구자들도 자신의 전공과 관련된 한국 논문을 쉽게 찾고 연구에 활용할 수 있어, 한국 학술자료의 활용과 국제적 인용 확대에도 기여할 것으로 기대된다.

정제영 케리스 원장은 “이번 번역 서비스는 국내에서 연구하는 외국인 학생과 연구자들이 한국의 우수 학술정보를 보다 편리하게 활용할 수 있도록 마련했다”며, “앞으로도 지능형 학술연구정보서비스(RISS) 전환을 추진해 학술정보의 접근성과 활용성을 높이고, 한국 학술연구의 세계화를 적극 지원하겠다”고 말했다.

The Research Information Service (RISS) Launches Real-Time Translation Service for Korean Academic Papers in 18 Languages

The Korea Education and Research Information Service (KERIS) (President Jeong Je-young, hereinafter referred to as KERIS) announced the launch of a service providing real-time translation of academic research abstracts, including domestic and international degrees, theses, and research reports, in 18 languages ​​through its Research Information Service (RIS, www.riss.kr), Korea's largest academic research information platform.

RIS is Korea's leading academic information sharing and distribution platform, enabling users to search and access not only domestic academic achievements produced by universities, public research institutes, and other institutions, but also excellent international academic materials.

The newly launched multilingual abstract translation service provides real-time translation of approximately 11.83 million paper abstracts in 18 languages, including English, Japanese, Chinese, Vietnamese, and Arabic. Users can view the translation results immediately on the RISS screen without logging in.

This service is specifically focused on supporting international students and researchers studying at Korean universities to explore and understand academic papers. Even researchers unfamiliar with Korean will be able to easily find and utilize Korean papers related to their fields of study, contributing to the increased utilization of Korean academic resources and their international citations.

Director Jeong Je-young of KERIS stated, "This translation service is designed to enable international students and researchers studying in Korea to more conveniently access Korea's excellent academic information." He added, "We will continue to promote the transition to an intelligent research information service (RISS) to enhance the accessibility and usability of academic information and actively support the globalization of Korean academic research."
