무소속 출마 여부에 대해서는 “가정적인 상황에 대해 답하지 않겠다”며 즉답을 피했다. 특히 지속적으로 이어진 국회의원 내정설에 대해서도 “당 지도부와는 사전에 어떠한 소통도 없었다”며 의혹을 일축했다.

한편 이번 파장은 대구시장 공천을 둘러싼 당내 갈등이 전면적으로 드러나는 계기가 되고 있다.
